lillybettybabs
I have three lovely Araucanas that i have hatched myself, My only problem is their head gear when they are drinking as they get it so wet and dirty and look such a mess. Does anyone have any tips to try and prevent this?
Mum
Sorry, no tips on how to prevent it because my Araucana does the same (as did my Poland ). Didn't seem to bother them any where near as much as it bothered me
Ain't Nobody Here
Do you use a glug or other type of drinker? My new Araucana (she arrived exactly a week ago ) always seems to have a wet chin but her topknot stays dry.
lindafw
mine (aracana's and Polands) have the option of a glug or a aluminium water bowl...but they prefer puddles...no wet pom poms but the occasional dribble down the chest..dirty girls
lillybettybabs
I have tried a Glug and they also have a gravity drinker, They look so scruffy also the white one has a pink topnot from drinking Poultry Tonic . Id like to show her but it's dyed pink! Grrrrrrr! Maybe i should invent some hen hairnets!
coco
I have two araucanas and and a large gravity drinker. They are both fine with it, maybe it is the glug that is causing problems.
Redwing
Narrow rimmed gravity drinkers are better than open drinkers A drip (nipple) drinker, rabbit bottle or narrow trough fitted to a pop bottle are other options
The Dogmother
I use gravity drinkers (the green and white ones from Jude) and also bunny bottle or the pop bottles with sippers - never had a problem with them, but when I had a Polish x araucana her head gear was always getting revolting. lillybettybabs
I'll try the bunny bottles and hope they get the hang of it, The old girls might be a little miffed.
