Sheilaz
As Dan's excellent "Worst Film" Thread has degenerated into "Musicals That I Love & To Which I Know All The Words..." (later to be renamed "Somebody Stop Her Singing"), I thought it would be timely to introduce a new topic. Many of us have agreed on Sound of Music, Oliver (yes, every single word ), Les Mis, Joseph & Carousel. Re the latter, my neck goes tingly if I hear "You'll Never Walk Alone" sung well. (Good anthem, Liverpool) Camelot! I love all the songs in that one. I was going to try & book "Billy Elliott" in London for Friday, with both daughters. (Sorry Sarah*, love the film too ) but found it's recommended unsuitable under 12...swearing & violence, so we'll go another time without Esther. So, we're going to Guys & Dolls! Now there's a great musical! This must be 4th production for me, we're really looking forward to it. (Yes, gambling, prohibition moonlighting etc not ideal for 9 yr old, but at least she won't be scared or scarred!)
Crooked Chicken
Guys and Dolls - saw it a few weeks ago - had great seats and Ewan McGreggor was brill (and gorgeous). I'd see it again.

Tom and Barbara
Les Mis My Fair Lady Sound of Music (yes i have dressed as a nun for the sing-a-long) Little shop of horrors Seven Brides for Seven Brothers *goes off into rendition of bless your beautiful hide* Chicago A friend of mine (very anti-musical) took his wife to see Billy Elliott at the week end and humbly admitted it was the best thing he'd seen in a long long time

Cinnamon
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Calamity Jane (Yes, I do have a thing for the young Howard Keel!) Gypsy Moulin Rouge The Adventures of Pricilla, Queen of the Dessert (Not sure if this is a true Musical, but it has a lot of good songs & fab dancing by 3 drag queens!) These are some of my favourites (you will notice the complete lack of Billy Elliott!)

Cinnamon
Does anyone remember HALF A SIXPENCE with Tommy Steele? It was flimed along the riverbank in Henley, where I live (although before my time!) My Grandad looked a lot like Tommy Steele when he was younger, & used to get asked for his autiograph all the time

Popcorn
Oh, yes I've seen that times Sarah. My grandad looked like Fred Astaire....I'll try scanning in a photo....(He was called Fred too!) TOP HAT. What a film (sorry I'm shouting again )

Mrs Frugal
My Grandad was always immaculately turned out even to weed the garden, bless his sweet socks. Always had a shirt and tie and one of Grandma's hand knitted jumpers on. Those were the days.
Guest
Aaaaaah, musicals - you just can't beat them! An excellent way to get the ironing done on a Saturday afternoon! Favourites have to be Annie Joseph - did both of these at primary - still remember all the words! Oklahoma! - dona at High School - remember all the words to that as well! Little Shop of Horrors - absolute classic! Wizard of Oz - Caity loves it almost as much as me! Easter Parade Meet me in St Louis ......... the list could go on and on - I'm not sure I've ever seen a musical I disliked!
The Dogmother
Dan, that's twice I have agreed with you (Grease and Rocky Horror) You must be slipping!
Sheilaz
Love those 2 as well! Did anyone else see "Rent"? It had a comparatively short theatre run (twice ) but was excellent. Guys & Dolls on Friday lived up to expectation & was fabulous. Gina, loved the photo of Granda/Fred Astaire, how dignified. Funny thing is, looks exactly like my parents in the background, right down to the camera case strap! Wouldn't it be so funny if it was! Although I suppose most women had that same hairstyle! How about 1946? Do you know which beach?
Popcorn
Oh Gosh Sheila..how bizarre would that be? I'll ask my Mum when and where it was!
