I remember Professor Brainstorm with his multiple pairs of glasses. Do you wear all yours at once though Richard? If you google him, there's nothing actually related to the original.

I do feel a bit like that sometimes, when I have my ordinary glasses perched on the top of my head, my computer glasses on - and I'm looking for my bifocals!

 

I used to adore the Professor Brainstorm books. He used to rush around shedding pairs of specs all over the place. He had a housekeeper called, I think it was, Mrs Flittersnoop or something like that.

 

He used to invent all these fantastic machines that then went haywire - I seem to remember a pancake making machine that they ended up using to make paving slabs for the roads.

Egluntine - I should hope Christine hasn't got prostate problems! I always get up in the night - I feel quite miffed if I sleep through!

No its definately not a prostate issue!

 

I slept through a couple of nights recently and it felt like sheer luxury! I think it was having no alcohol at all that helped

You will have to get into the habit of having supper earlier, at least an hour before you go to bed, that way you should sleep through the night without interruptions

Supper Claire? - we often don't get our dinner until nearly 10pm

 

I also don't drink enough during the day, as I don't often feel thirsty. Carl makes me catch up in the evening. Our evenings usually start around 9pm

I'm with Egluntine here - I have my dinner at dinner time (middle of the day) and my tea when I get home from work. Supper doesn't happen in our house!

We have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tea is mid-afternoon (if you're lucky), and supper is a late night snack.

 

I think it depends on where you come from geographically

Oh dear, I'm feeling really deprived here! I don't have a lunch. I have breakfast, dinner and tea. Maybe I need to introduce some extra meals into my life!

 

My girls get breakfast (layers pellets), dinner - lettuce and any other greens, plus any stale bread or pasta treats, and maybe the odd bit of green s"Ooops, word censored!"s for their tea. they also get a few sunflower seeds whenever I fill up the feeders for the little birds in the garden.

You have tea in a cup, with cakes, in the afternoon when your elderly relatives are round......

 

Breakfast at breakfasttime, lunch at lunchtime and dinner at dinnertime - thats how it works in our house!

I think this is all down to semantics. My dinner is someone else's lunch, my tea is someone else's dinner, my cup of tea and a bit of a nibble is someone else's high tea with an elderly relative ......

 

The problem would come if I invited somebody round for dinner, expecting them at midday, and they didn't show up until 8pm!

 

I think my girls do eat better than me; but, as they say on the TV, it's because they're worth it!

'High tea' is something cooked which you have instead of a sandwich, like beans on toast, cheese on toast etc.

 

Talking of Rick Wakeman - must be getting old, both Wakeman and Steve Winwood are church organists (I read that somewhere).

That can't be true! Please remember where you heard that! Which church, I wonder? Probably one with a large congregation! Or do you mean someone who plays a pipe organ rather than an electronic one?

 

My DH is a church organist - does that put him on an equal par with Rick Wakeman?

Apparently Stevie Winwood is a chuch organist down in the South West somewhere, and Rick Wakeman plays in South Norfolk.

 

My wife is Treasurer for the PCC and went green with envy when she found out that Wakeman was giving concerts to raise money for the 5 churches around where he lives. He played the church organ and electric keyboards etc. and he also got some of his mates to play - and some comedians as well that he knew!

 

Needless to say they were sold out by the time I found out about them. Just my luck ...

hmm

it depends whether its sandwiches or cooked in the evening what I call that meal. Generally its dinner now as we have cooked but I grew up with cooked at noon and had tea in the evening. Supper is late evening

Oh my goodness what have I said!

 

I used the word 'supper' to mean the last drink (and snack) you have before bed.

 

I am confused now, I use 'lunch' to describe a cold middle of the day meal, but 'dinner' if it is hot. Tea is my evening meal (which is cold on a Sunday!).

 

Which is the north bit and which is the south, I am in the middle!

 

Anyone out there who can talk proper and tell us what is what? (mind you I wouldn't change anyway )

...we never have supper - must make time for that too!
