AJuff
My mum died when I was 18mths old, my dad never mentioned her. I knew she was Irish and catholic. After years of searching and help from a friend I have finally traced her birth certificate. She was born in limerick and I know her birthday now! Finally I can add grandparents to my family tree too!

AJuff
Now I know her date of birth I can apply for the coroner's report and find out what happened to the baby she was carrying. She died in childbirth and I'm not sure how I know this but it was a boy. Stillborn? Unborn? Living? Can't find any records at all relating to the child. Nothing noted on death certificate. Lesley
Well done! - it's great when you find another piece of jigsaw isn't it?
Willow
Very exciting I'm sure it's occurred to you already but You almost certainly have cousins on your mums side of the family. i can't speak for them but cousins are really important in most Irish Catholic families and for my family if we were contacted by cousins that had never had contact before for any reason but especially because of the circumstances you haven't we'd be really excited
Egluntyne
What Patricia says is so true. I made contact with my Irish Catholic birth family around 10 years ago, and couldn't have been made more welcome.
soapdragon
How fantastic! You must be chuffed to nuts ! As already posted...another bit of the jigsaw and, I would guess, just the beginning of a voyage of discovery. Keep at it and let us know how you get on!!!! Already awaiting the next installment..........
Looney
Wow! That's great news I managed to contact my maternal grandfather just 6 months before he died and found out that he was half Irish (and half Essex). Filled out a load of unknowns about what had happened between him and my grandma (apart from the obvious ) and where he came from etc.
AJuff
My mother had one sister and at least two brothers. When she married my Protestant father her family cut ties with her. Her sister, my Aunt Jo a sister of mercy nun and her brother Bertie a catholic priest kept in touch with us as we were growing up. What a pity they both died before I was old enough to ask questions! Olly
terribly sad to hear that you lost your mum so young, and in such tragic circumstances, but delighted that you've finally been able to fill in some blanks. I do hope you can find some more information, and perhaps some living relatives who could tell you about your mother.
