Made me smile today.....

Recommended Posts

Today I asked my class why did they think the sea was salty? It was an introduction to some comprehension they were going to do and is something I like to try to get them talking and thinking about first. One of the girls gave me this response ... "it is salty because the tide is affected by the moon and the moon is made of cheese, cheese is salty and the moon beams get beamed down into the water and put the salt in". This made me smile, it was a well thought out explanation and very convincingly delivered, it had some of the other children agreeing too.

By the end of the lesson I am afraid that the much more boring process was understood, but it does show just how much even children of 8/9 still misunderstand and confuse myths/tales with reality. It was parents evening tonight so I was able to share this with her mum, who was also amused by it.

Seems a perfectly reasonable explanation to me....

I just love children's logic. It's pure genius

A few years ago I had to explain to my Rainbows that I was going to be off for a few weeks because I was going in to hospital for an operation. One of them asked where I was getting my operation and I said it was on my tummy. I said I'd had a sore tummy for a while and the doctors were going to make it better. One of them piped up "Are you going to get a baby?"!! Little did she know that was exactly what I wasn't going to be able to get after this particular operation! But her mummy had just had a baby by caesarean section, therefore in her 6 year old world, a tummy operation = a baby!

I love it!
