Masterchef final *spoiler alert

Recommended Posts

Did anyone see this last night? I found myself quite disappointed by the result. Shelina, whilst undoubtedly being a very good cook didn't seem to produce anything other than her Mauritian style of food, and it seemed to me that nearly everything she produced had mango in it. I seem to remember in past series that the contestants were criticised for being "one trick ponies" if they didn't show a wide enough repertoire in their chosen dishes. That apparently went out the window since she was the clear favourite though this week and even perhaps a bit before. It just seemed to me that both Tom and Andrew had many more techincally demanding dishes all the way through. That said Shelina did perform very well in the various restaurant tasks, was never flustered and always finished on time, and so perhaps she does deserve the title. I would just have liked to have seen a bit more variety..

I watched it too, and would have been disappointed if Shelina hadn't won!

I thought everything she cooked looked wonderful, and it clearly tasted as good as it looked. I agree that the other 2 probably made more complicated dishes, but their food didn't appeal to me as much.

Yes, we all saw it at work :) Wanted Shelima to win but I did think that what she cooked in the final, she could have cooked on day 1 - she didn't seem to apply much of the learning, while Tom really did. Three evenings on the trot at 9 o'clock was a bit intense too - in bed early tonight!

I'm really glad Shelina won - she was the best and most consistent throughout the series imo and although sticking mainly to Mauritian style food she did step outside of this on various occasions and the others stuck to more classic French cuisine and variations thereof just as much - we probably just don't notice it as much. At least she didn't put strawberries with pork and lobster :vom:

it was obvious from the final 5 that she was the winner she was the only one that always got the job done on time and on the feed the chefs night was the only one that didn't need a helping hand and on the first test of that night was the only one to forefill the brief

I thought from the final 5 that Shelina was the likely winner, although as I watched this week I did think that any of the final 3 could win..it just depended what happened on the final day.

I seem to remember that she stepped away from Mauritian food in the middle, and then back to it towards the end. S I thought she did apply some of the learnings - presentation, especially, but also from the thai idea of sweet, sour, hot, salty, umami.

I felt that overall she was probably a better winner. She was the one who was most consistently under control of timings etc and calm under pressure. Part of me would have liked Andrew to win as he seemed such a sweet chap.... we were discussing today whether Andrew would have won if he hadn't put strawberries in his starter, but we decided that it probably would still have been Shelina.

All 3 of them were pretty amazing, even more so considerung they were amateur cooks. We like the Professional Masterched competition as well, and the quality of food produced by these three was on a par with what the professionals cook at the end of their competition. I hope that they all end up having successful cooking careers.

I love cooking - I couldn't do that sort of competition.

I was really pleased she won. She was the most consistent throughout the contest, and even though her food was of the same ilk, it wasn't like Aki (? the Japanese lady) who just coudn't get to grips with any other style. I also would have been happy if Andrew had won, although strawberries pork and lobster :!: then again, it may have worked if the strawberries were prepared in a different way. But she was on time with her menus, and didn't get really hett up and emotional if things went wrong. Just what you need in a pro kitchen I would guess.
