Plum
I've got one who has laid soft eggs for years. I gave up giving supplements for fear of upsetting the others metabolism and just accept it now. Have you tried a dollop of cod liver oil in feed to add vit D which helps uptake of calcium?
jackian
One of my girls Eva has laid soft eggs on and off since we had her 4 months ago but after someone on here suggesting limestone flour sprinkled on the food she has improved 100%. From what I know which is not a lot it is usually lack of calcium.
bluekarin
One of my three, Flo, is laying softies, when she lays that is - not laid a proper egg since last summer. The other two, who are from the same flock as her are laying perfectly good eggs. I have been adding limestone powder to their layers mash, and I have cut down on treats, just giving protein bits and bobs and greenery. Not sure what else to do. surfer_chicken
A friend was asking me about this today. She has 7 chickens, who have all started laying normally again after the winter break for over a month now, but one has been laying soft shelled eggs everyday since she started laying again. She is about 2/3 years old; has the same diet as the other girls who lay normally (layers pellets mostly); free ranges and rarely gets treats. My friend has tried giving her baked eggshells but this has made no difference so far. She is getting a little annoyed now as she has to constantly change the bedding and the others have caught on and wait until she has laid the egg so they can eat it! Any ideas what could be causing it? And I got this for the ex-batts first couple of months: There's plenty left, would it be worth lending to her to help with this problem? (Sorry to invade )
