Hi,

We are fortunate to have got olympic tickets and want to make a weekend of it by doing london and a show. We have a 5 year old, 9 year old and 12 year old. We are umming and ahhing about which one to go for. Lion king says its suitable for age 6 and above but any child above 3 can go, I am not sure if it will be a bit much for her. Matilda looks great fun but my 5 year old says she doesn't like Miss Trunchbowl!

 

Has anyone been to either and can give me an idea of suitable ages. There are a couple of other shows - Shrek, Wizard of Oz etc that are family shows but don't really fancy them.

Lion King! Lion King! Lion King! We went two years ago with our 3 boys, then aged 4, 6 and 9. We were a little apprehensive as the boys had never been to a show before, and thought 4 was perhaps a little young, but as our youngest was a huge fan we went anyway. We went in the afternoon rather than at night to make sure we had no tired, grumpy children and had an amazing time. Everyone absolutely loved it, even grumpy OH who can't stand musicals. All three sat quietly, completely enchanted for the duration of the show and still talk about it now. A must see!

I saw the lion king a few years ago (with y7 school children, not my own) and it was brilliant i know thats a lot older than your, but i dont recall anything too scary about it, and the costumes were amazing, it was easy to forget that they were real people

 

I actually thought that the lion king was more suitable for children than a panto i went to

Lion King - stunnings sets and music - great for adults and children - visually excellent. We went a few years ago for DD 9th birthday with a few of her friends and they all enjoyed it.

I've not seen either but just to say that many of the West End shows are closing during the Olympics so it's worth checking with the box offices before you book tickets as the ticket agencies are not necessarily showing this.

Saw it in Stratford at Christmas 18months ago with an 8, 10 and 14 yr old.

I've heard good reports of Matilda, but haven't seen it - however I don't think the Lion King could possibly disappoint. The puppetry is fantastic, and your children have probably seen the film and know the story, so they'll find it easy to follow.

Saw the Lion King and it is brilliant! Looking forward to seeing Matilda in July for DD's 20th Birthday. If you daughter is a bit worried about Miss Trunchbull, I would suggest you see Lion King. Theatre tickets are so expensive and it would be such a shame if your daughter didn't like the show.

Not seen those 2 but heard great things about them both!

We tried to get tickets for Matilda at Christmas as they'd sold out for 2 months!!

 

Have seen Shrek and the Wizard of Oz and were both good

Lion King! Took my 2 to see it years ago when they were little and it was totally mesmerising

I have to agree with everybody that Lion King is truly stunning but I having seen Matilda as well, and given your children's ages I would go for Matilda.I think the 5 year old might be overwhelmed by the Lion King.

Brilliantly well done and it's obvious that the children have put their hearts and souls into the production.

No comparison really.

Lion King is slick and professional as you would expect but Matilda comes from the hearts of the performers and it shows.
