Britannia Ovens (esp Range cookers) your experience

I know that most of you have lovely coloured Eglus or Cubes but some of us with wooden coops may need to get painting this spring. What colours have people done their wooden houses?

 

This is mine at the moment. The roof was pink but has been made cream just recently. Somtimes I wish I'd not painted the main part black but I wanted it to look like a granary. A blue colour might have been nice or perhaps some stripes like a beach hut

I painted mine a few years ago, it lasted well in the run but its outside now and errr....doesnt look quite as good!

I think that is great as it is ,I have two wooden coups that are still brown.(call me old fashioned not keen on plastic )..You have set me thinking now.I reckon a beach hut stripy.I want one like yours ...I feel a paint job coming on.

Your coop is fab I really love the way it sits in your garden

It's very effective !

I'm looking at blue for my coop and may be some lime green ?

I saw a similar coop on line it had nasturtium and cosmos growing infront of it

Yes the Cuprinol catalogue is excellent - I keep it with my decorating books and keep taking a peek. The cream we used is Cuprinol Dorset Cream. I also really like their lavender shade. The pink we used was made up by OH from dorset cream and some left over Farrow & Ball Rectory Red (which he calls 'rectum red' ) I wanted it to go with the pink Grub / Glug set that I have and initially I persuaded him to do the roof all in pink too but he got teased by the neighbour so it became cream

I know that somewhere I have seen a lovely house with vines painted on it. Was it yours, Plum?

I love yours as it is. What about copying the gypsy caravan one?

You could keep the roof blue and white to look like sky then the sides pale blue coming down to sandy colour and paint colourful beach huts and deckchairs on it. With beachballs and boats, buckets and spades

 

You could have a pink beachhut

I've recently bought Cuprinol 'Maple Leaf' for a coop and will use it with 'Country Cream' trim

Your house is the one I remembered, Plum, and it has to be the loveliest of hen houses. Your ideas for what could be done to mine are really great but frankly, exceed my capabilities. I think I'll just try a few tendrils Did you use a stencil?

The Cuprinol Shades are all fab

My house is the willow colour with country cream bits. Looks like Chick Wiggles!

Sounds lovely Lottie, need a picture.

 

No stencils but free hand. I googled for images of decorated bird houses to get ideas for simple images then someone on here said add a dragonfly. Used acrylic paint cheap from pound stores and then sprayed it with varnish.

Thanks Plum and Chubby Chook - the chook keeping bug has hit hard and it's so nice to make it all look nice in the garden. Your houses are both lovely.
