williamspencer98
Fingers crossed that I find some chickens I like at Mini Meadows, Welford I could well be buying some chickens! But I'm debating with my family, whether 2 is not enough, (they might get bored of each other), 3 is (two's company three's a crowd - one might get left out) and in my opinion 4 would be the best number, but what does everyone think? How many do you have? Will
munkee1965
Hi I have 4 girls which I got about 4 weeks ago. They seem to get on well most of the time although I have seen a couple of little fall outs. What are you thinking of getting?
williamspencer98
Well I like Mini Meadows Farm in Northamptonshire, but its a case of going and falling in love with one (or all of them) and pick them there and then. But the man says he has some breeds I like in stock: New Hampshire Red, Gold Laced Wyandotte, Buff Orpington, Light Sussex. I would absolutely love a Faverolle but he hasn't got any in stock Thanks for replying by the way

williamspencer98
They sound beeaaaaaauuuuitful! I want to start out with 2 I think and use the house and run we've got, and then if we want to get more, we'll buy a bigger house
jackian
They reckon 3 is a good number and if you should lose one like I did, It is easier to introduce another 2 . It is more difficult to just add one. One on their own is lonely is a lonely girl.
dance in the dark
I just wanted to say, I started out with four, then I had seven, then nine, now 11. Plus I have two more booked for a few weeks (sexing pending) and a hen who is sitting on 9 fertile eggs....whoops! Just to warn you of the danger of hen keeping! Henslaved
I would go with 4 . Will save hassle on intro's later, as you're bound to want more .
Purplemaniacs
It also depends on how much run space you have. We had two omlet girls but knew we were immediately going to get two more from Merrydale as wanted a mix of hybrids. Then we added four more hybrids to get different coloured eggs. But if I had not intended to add straight away I would have gone for three just in case we lost one. Last year we got three ex batts sadly one didn't live for very long so I was pleased that we hadn't just had two and been left with one lonely one. If you have the space I would go for three or four Let us know what you get. Chrissie
AlisonH
I've got 2 because I have the normal eglu go run suitable for 2 and they are best of friends but I wish now I had got 3 originally and got an extension to start with as there is the worry of losing one.
