Janepie33
Off to the emergency vet in a few mins. Just had 3rd fox attack in 5years. Honey seems in good spirits despite a nasty tear in her back. Wish us luck!

cheekymonkey68
Hope honey is ok! its surprising what they can recover from. Im having foxy visits almost twice a day now... at varying times, and during day time... seems like Mr fox is just testing to see when there is a breach in the defenses... we wont let him beat us... Wishing your girly well, hugs

Janepie33
4 stitches.Removal of a blood clot. A big dose of antibiotics and lots of pampering including meal worms, some pearl barley and several mouthfuls of cat food stolen from the cat's bowls under their astounded noses! She is remarkably perky considering her ordeal. Excellent vet - even though I had to pay out of hours charges. Half an hour earlier and I could have had a regular appointment! It's always the way. Honey will have to spend the night in the bathroom away from cats, predators and inquisitive fellow chickens to keep her wound clean. Thanks for all the Omlet support. Greatly appreciated. Janepie33
We have gone months without any sign of a fox and then one struck in broad daylight with OH in the garden at the same time. He scared it off, but even when it saw him, it hung around to try its luck. It's that time of year again everyone. Beware!
cheekymonkey68
What a brave and beautiful girl ! I had to keep one of mine in the kitchen for a week.. we made a temporary chook corral with 8 interlocking loft floor boards, some chicken wire and a cat carrier! she still was laying everyday, which was unbelievable considering the massive hole in her back. Im sure your girl will heal quickly, are you having to flush her wound with saline fluid twice a day ? I found getting antibiotics down is best done with two people or you will end up wearing most of the liquid!! Best of luck :)

Janepie33
Well she survived the night. In a cat basket lined with newspaper and straw with bowls of food and water down by the plug hole. She sat in the basket all night as good as gold, but didn't think to come out and eat and drink when it got light. Got the hang of it when I placed her right next to the bowls! The wound looks really good and Honey is bright and perky. Aren't chickens amazing! Luvachicken
How is Honey today ? If you do have trouble getting the antibiotics in, try wrapping her up in a towel (we used an old nappy, it was just the right size) a bit like a straight jacket. You can then tuck her under one arm, kind of on your lap with one leg crossed over the other - makes her a bit higher - and squirt the medicine in carefully. Hope it's going well.
