Doorbells

Recommended Posts

I have issues with my doorbell. It is one where the bellpush is wired to the chime, which is about 15 feet away, and very old. It plays lots of awful tunes, at random, and seems to eat batteries and doesn't work more than it does work. It appears to be affected by the heat, cold, damp and wind

I've seen some great wireless ones, where the bellpush has a battery in and fits to the door, then the chimes have a plug on the back and just plug in anywhere you like. I'm tempted. I've been reading reviews on Amazon and just when I think I've found 'the one', a bad review pops up

So, fellow Omleteers, which sort of doorbell do you have or would you recommend?

We have a battery / plug in one and its been great. Our house isn't huge so not sure if that helps the range but the bell is loud so we can hear it in the garden or upstairs. The battery in the bell push switch has lasted ages too. Now you want to know which type it is? Well I have had a look and can't find any brand name on it but I'm sure we got it from homebase, i remember annoying OH by pressing all the bells! Sorry can't be more help. Xxx

We have a wireless one which you can add receivers to - we have the main one in the hallway and then two 'mobile' units, one for the conservatory and one which I take out into the garden. It works really well - I'll try to find the make and come back.......

Edit - It's a Friedland.

Bog standard DING DONG wired in bell here too - it's rubbish and like yours Charlottechicken, doesn't work as often as it does work

Tango also barks at the doorbell.... plus any doorbell noises on the TV, radio etc  Hubby winds her up by playing a doorbell sound on his phone  I can't even blame myself for training her to bark at the bell, she learnt to do it all by herself - very irritating!

We got rid of our doorbell when we changed our front door a few years ago & have a big iron knocker now,in the shape of a garden trowel 8)

Its loud enough to be heard from the garden,so long as visitors actually come into the porch & knock it - the porch is enclosed & people still knock on the outside glass door instead

We have a bog standard DING DONG one but people use the letterbox to rap on the door which makes me jump  I was going to put a grumpy old woman sign saying "YES its a bell and it works so ring it" but the boys wouldnt let me

I get the banging on the door thing; it seems to be a local habit, I never hear it and it doesn't make the dogs bark either, so largely goes ignored. If they really want to speak to me then they can learn to use the bell.

I would love a doorbell which sings (to the tune of you are my sunshine)

"i dont need paving, I dont need roofing, my windows sparkle and so do I, please go away and leave me beeeee, so farewell, adieu and goodbye"

There by getting rid of unwanted callers. Couldnt fit JW in there but would if I could!!!

Oh, Alis girls, love that jingle

Lesley, thank you, I knew there was a good doorbell making firm and was trying to think of the name. I've found a website specialising in Friedland and there's one for just £10.95 which will be perfect for me. As an added bonus there is a choice of only three sounds, thankfully!
