Lost ex-batt & another a week later

Recommended Posts

One of the 4 exbatts I got in early Jan died today :(

At least she has had 5 months of freedom. In the last week I have had the odd wrinkled shell egg, but they have all bee looking fine and health. This morning I went to collect eggs and saw her lying on her side in the run dead. All the eggs in the nest box were covered in blood, and it looks like a bad case of prolapse poor thing.

She just hadn't stopped laying since they day I got her, but unfortunately that's what these chickens are breed to do and always a likely risk.

Sadly a second of my ex-batts died this morning, a week after the first one :( . This one was fine yesterday and has obviously just died in her sleep - I found her laid on the roosting bars this morning :(

Whilst the one last week definately had a prolapse there is no sign of anything wrong with this second one, very sad, but as we known they have a hard life and many are not long-lived, at least she had 6 months of free ranging and didn't suffer in the end.

Very sorry that you have lost another of your girls. It always seems to be the same with ex batts, for months all is well and then two or three seem to go in very short succession. Very sorry - it is always so hard when you lose them.
