Mines called Twister, she is my noisiest hen, and insists on doing the egg fanfare every time she lays, pretty well every day at the moment! Mid brown eggs with speckles!!Doesnt like being picked up or cuddled.

She has used her trumpeting calls to save the flock from dog attack, and to alert me to a rat in the WIR. She's my look out girl

I have one, a speckledy hybrid (unsure which two breeds she is a mix of), she is called Lupin and she lays medium brown eggs with speckles all over. She has been broody regularly but responds to the 3 days in the sin bin and snaps out of it okay. She is very friendly and placid when not 'pancaking' in the nest box screeching at me! Lupin is 3 and a half and still laying more or less daily, probably due to the fact that she has not 'burnt herself out' producing eggs as she has had quite a few weeks off of laying as a result of the amount of time she has spent being broody!!!! She has had no health problems to date (touches wood) and is very sweet :) x

Thanks, all really interesting - I've only ever had broody bantams who are easy to manhandle so not sure about a big girl! I think I need to check then if they are crossed with plymouth rocks ? They also have Maran Cuvree - I'd love a pure breed but couldn't find any near me :( I can't keep up with my egg orders at work at the moment

Hi there - I'm very excited as I've just picked up two POL Spedaldys on Saturday to add to my other 4 who are now 18 months old. Wanted to stagger the ages of my hens as my last 4 all died (of old age) within 3 months of each other, which was hard - so thought I would get a couple of younger ones. The Speckledys seem to be very friendly. I've put them in my spare eglu and run and the other 4 are in the Cube. They are all surrounded by an electric fence and when I let the others out in their fence area - what a comotion! Ivy and Polly my two White Stars, where clucking and making a right old fuss when they saw my newbies - who are Milly & Molly. They were giving the newbies the evils all afternoon. The went up to bed - still clucking, so I had to close their door in the end (I usually leave it open over night), to settle them down. They were better yesterday - thankfully.

In the meantime, Milly & Molly are settling in really well and I'm hoping to introduce them all in about 10 days time, one evening when they are all a bit sleepy. Any advice is welcome! :0) :D

My Speckledy was supposed to lay dark brown eggs, but they aren't! Sometimes they are speckled but not very often anymore, she has been quite broody this year, but soon snaps out of it, and as others have said, she is the look out and will cry at almost anything, then run round till you tell her to shut up! She is also very definitely top chook!

I've got one at the moment, and had 2 before. Egg colour was never dark, but more brown than pink. Often the eggs have a few freckles. One of mine, Beautiful Betty, never laid an egg that weighed less than 80g! My current speckledy is very greedy, and quite dominant.

I have a speckledy and she is a lovely hen, she's one of the few of my flock you can actually pick up and cuddle, without them struggling. She lays small, speckledy mid - brown eggs, and is our only hen that layed all through the winter, but now at 2 and a half years she is still laying but not everyday. I would recommend them.
