Ain't Nobody Here
I don't know if this is just a city problem but it's something I know is pretty common in Edinburgh. Anyway, this is a cautionary tale for any of you with teenagers ... The daughter of a friend of mine tried to get into a new nightclub in Edinburgh using fake ID. This was 2 months before her 18th and they had all just finished their exams (and thus school). She was caught by the police at the door (Edinburgh has a fairly new stricter policy on fake IDs) but owned up straight away and was driven home and given a stern talking to (which scared her witless). She was told that was the end of it. The day before her 18th birthday a letter arrived from the Procurator Fiscal saying that she would have this on her record for 2 years. Not too big a deal you'd think, except that she had an unconditional offer to study pharmacy at Aberdeen Uni which required Enhanced Disclosure, which would include this offence. There's also some sort of disclosure required to practice pharmacy and the offence will apparently be on that for life. It was touch and go whether the Uni would even let her in but thankfully my friend eventually found someone who was prepared to. There is still the issue of what happens when she graduates but they'll cross that bridge when they come to it. It totally ruined her 18th birthday and has potentially affected her chosen career. So, any teenagers planning on a career in the NHS need to think very carefully before using fake ID.
Geoid
Just thought I would add this: It is a criminal offence to use false or borrowed ID to gain entry to licensed premises or to buy alcohol. The penalties for doing so can lead to a maximum punishment of £5,000 and 10 years imprisonment.
Olly
That's a salutary warning. It would mess things up for anyone planning a career in law, too.
The Dogmother
Yes, we have some language schools in our town and in the summer we are inundated with foreign students, lots of whom are using fake ID to get into the bars and clubs; the police have a hard time sorting it all out.... they are targetting the local 'mafia' who sell them the fake ID. Looney
I had a very lucky escape. Many moons ago (I'm 34 now) I had a fake ID. A friend had enrolled at a local college and we were amazed how slack their checks were re ID and age when they issued the college ID cards...so, in a moment of total stupidness, we decided to see if we could get them to issue a card with the wrong date of birth on it They issued me with one and a few days later - having never used the ID card - I lost my purse and a good Samaritan handed it to the police. The police tried to trace me by the (fake) address and of course couldn't so put a paragraph in the local paper's police column. Lo and behold loads of people came to me to tell me the local police were looking for me as they had property to return. I got a bit of a grilling and luckily it went no further, thank goodness It was a worrying few days though! And it scared the wotsits out of me! Alis girls
Thanks for that - dont you find thou they think they are untouchable. I think shes had it tough - she owned up got a rollicking off the bill and surely as shes shown remorse that shouldve been it??? I am not one for soft measures but to ruin a future is a bit harsh. Sadly this young ladys learnt the hard way. Something else for me to worry about with the 16 yr old son along with drugs and smoking (so far hes anti) alcohol (he had wake up call after mixing drinks suffering a major hangover, spending a Sunday in bed and 2 weeks grounding - and his mates thought that harsh!) sex - dont even go there. At this age their brains migrate to their trousers.
Cinnamon
It is a huge problem all over the country. I was chatting to a VERY well to do customer at my till once about it & she told me that she had brought fake ID's for both of her children,as it wasn't fair that they weren't allowed to party like their older friends did. I don't know how I held my tongue on that one I also 'told' on a young lady who tried to borrow my daughters ID....her Mum was not bothered by it in the least. surfer_chicken
I was asked a lot by people if they could borrow my ID after turning 18 in January. Not even just by friends either, but by other people in my year who I'd hardly ever spoken to. I never did lend my ID to anyone, but friends who did soon had the word spread around that they were willing and were asked a lot more often. Around here shops and clubs tend to just confiscate false ID but don't proceed further, which is more of a loss to the person who lent their ID out then to the person using fake ID. I didn't know you could get a record for it though
