craftyhunnypie
I truly am clutching at straws here. Just hoping & praying. Last week, my little showgirl cockerel 'Rico' died suddenly of a heart attack. He wasn't even 1 year old. I was & still am extremely upset. I cried all day last week. I still had 3 showgirl eggs & hubby said why not try & incubate them. He'd also taken some eggs to sell to someone ( for eating) & said he would get them back . He got them back, brought them home & to my horror he had brought back the Japanese bantam eggs, not the showgirl eggs. The showgirl eggs had already been used for cooking. I was so mortified. Anyway - I decided to put the 3 showgirl eggs in the incy in the hope that they are fertile, along with 6 Japanese bantam eggs. Candling is Thursday night - please all pray that these are fertile ( the showgirls), as it is my only hope of keeping Rico's memory alive. craftyhunnypie
They stop turning on Monday evening. I had to buy another electric hen, as I've already got 9 chicks 3 weeks old indoors in a brooder. Although a lot of them spend more time on top of it doing flying practice. If the showgirls hatch, I think I will cry ( tears of joy). Emma.x
Purplemaniacs
Fingers tightly crossed for you Shame you are not closer you could have borrowed my electric hen as my chicks are just using it for sitting and jumping off now. Not sure they really fly more of a jump and flap. They will soon be going outside, I will miss hearing them chatting away. Good luck next week kept us posted. craftyhunnypie
Thank you! One Japanese bantam egg pipped last night (day 18). It hatched early evening today, but there was a lot of blood & unfortunately it died within an hour of hatching. It was fully formed but did seem weak upon hatching. Very sad, but I think it hatched too early really. I've just peeped in the incy & there is another Jap egg pipped &...... a showgirl egg pipped! YES!!!!! Come on please , let the memory of Rico (showman) live on! I already have names for a showgirl or shoman chick.. Barry or Mandy! craftyhunnypie
I've now got 3 Japanese bantams & 3 Showgirls fluffing up in the incy! All 3 showgirl eggs hatched - I'm so thrilled. They all apear to be white like their daddy. the memeory if Rico lives on. The Japs are very very cute too. Emma.X

craftyhunnypie
I do have pics yes & I will get round to uploading them, probably tomorrow night now. I got a total of 10 chics in the end. 10 out of 12 - although all were fully developed but died is a good hatch rate I'd say. I'm so very pleased. So I have 7 Japanese bantams & 3 showgirls. I origianlly thought the showgirls were all white, but I think one is blue & another blue splash. Think there is just the one white. Lovely & friendly the showgirl chicks, the Japs are a bit more cautious. It's mad in the brooder room, as I also have the 9 chicks from the last hatch ( now 4 weeks old) - Polish, Millefleur Barbu D'uccles & a lavender Barbu d'anver. I'm suspicious of the millefleurs, they look more like pekins. Hmm. Only time will tell if they truly are barbu d'uccles. All lovely though. williamspencer98
Congrats!! Sounds brilliant news. I've seen you're replies on my post so I thought I'd look at your posts! How lovely of you to get more of Rico's identicals! My Lemon pekins are in memory of my girly Poppet, she was so nice but died suddenly, and she was so pretty and tame even though I had her for a few weeks! I know the feeling and fingers crossed for me in the incy I will have good luck and replace her...I hatched 1 LP chick naturally with my hen last week but died so I really do know the feeling!! I'd love to see some pictures, good luck and hope everything goes brilliantly. Will x
craftyhunnypie
Hopefully I can get photobucket to behave. Photos have been uploaded, so it's just a matter of putting them into a language that Omlet will accept. I can't believe how quick these chicks have learnt to make a mess of their brooder, compared to all others I've hatched in the past. All good fun eh? The older chicks are being weaned off the heat now - just on at night from about 7pm now. I have no idea how to sex Polish, but I certain there is at least 1 boy. There seems to be an odd bod in there too, that is not a silver laced. The breeder also kept creole, so it could be one of those or a cross. I'm watching it very carefully. It's hairdo looks like it's going to be a perfect shampoo & set! The Japs & showgirls are just adorable - they jump on my hand whenever I go in the brooder to change the water etc. Ahh bless them.
