Eggasperated
Looks like a lumpy bloomer Had a go at this today but think I must have over-proved it as all the plait definition disappeared when I baked it, never mind, hopefully it will taste okay. Daphne
I'm sure it will taste delish They had something similar on Hairy Bikers Mum's Know Best as the fun challenge with the audience. I'm not sure any of those would have won prizes, but really thats not the point Good on you for having a go
jasperaliceuk
Good on you for trying - would like to have a go. I did the Battenburg last week - turned out really well but not impressed with quantity in Mary Berry's recipe. I think it needed a 6oz mixture and maybe ditch the ground almonds as it seemed a bit dry. Oh well, will just have to have another bash. My next aim is raised pies - supposed to be on a lowish carb diet but really want to try it. Sue
Charlottechicken
Good on you for having a go! Did you knead and prove it by hand or in a breadmaker? Have you tried it yet?
Eggasperated
Did you knead and prove it by hand or in a breadmaker? I started with it mixing in the KitchenAid but finished the kneading by hand, on reflection I don't see why I couldn't have made the dough in the bread maker. We've eaten half of it with some homemade carrot and coriander soup tonight and there's nothing wrong with the bread itself, quite a dense loaf with a more salty flavour than we're used to, but then I think Paul Hollywood does use quite a lot of salt in his recipes. I'm certainly going to give it another go - I won't be beaten by a plaited loaf .
Daphne
I'm watching the masterclasses on TV and am finding myself increasingly mesmerised by PH's hair, its so shiningly silver next to the iron grey and MB's eyelashes - they are so thick In fact, I am finding it difficult to follow the recipes
superkitty
I keep wanting him to roll up his sleeves more And your loaf looks pretty good to me!!!
Eggasperated
And your loaf looks pretty good to me!!! Unfortunately that picture was of the proper loaf not my sorry effort . Anyway we've eaten most of it now so it obviously tasted alright .
Sue_F
I made one too! Though we thought there was too much salt in it. Camembert and quince flatbreads now on the go!
Eggasperated
Did yours still look plaited after it was cooked Sue? I did cut the salt down a bit as I've been caught out by Paul Hollywood like that before but mine was still quite salty.
quickcluck
How does he never get his shirt or is cuffs dirty! Were the flatbreads nice Sue??? I've a teacake mould on the way, so am excited about that!

Plum
Well done Sue, I'm inspired to try flatbreads later this week. I've never made bread apart from a concrete block at school that stank of yeast. I've just made a loaf using the recipe on the outside of the allinson flour packet this morning and it's another brick but doesn't smell of anything so it's back to Paul Hollywood for me I'll try again! Plum
Actually my brick's not bad now cold with a bit of lemon curd Watch out 8 strand plait here I come
chickencam
I am in the process of making PH's malted loaf, but with seeded white flour rather than malted flour. I have a nasty feeling that it is going to be too salty, I used 1g less than it said.
kinsk
I clicked on the link, saw the photo and thought "well it doesn't look too bad to me" then realised it was his version
Plum
If you're that easy to fool, I'll put up a picture of his plait loaf when I am done.
