Lavenders_Blue
We have had a new (very temporary!) arrival to our household today in the form of a stray kitten. I saw it first yesterday, trotting down our close mewing loudly and hiding under the cars shortly after a van had just driven up and back down our close so assumed it had been dumped. However it then disappeared so I thought it must had come from a nearby street and have been someone's pet. When hubby came home from work this evening he was accosted by the kitten, who wouldn't leave him alone so he brought kitty in and fed him - poor wee thing was ravenous and ate til his belly was like a balloon! We can't keep him in our house as the dog will probably kill him, so he's gone to my parents' for the night until I can phone round the vets, radio etc to try and get him reunited with owners (if any) and also scanned for a microchip. I couldn't bear the thought of him possibly being out another night in the freezing cold and snow. As we came out of our house to drive him over to my parents' our neighbour asked if we were looking after the stray kitten they had seen - apparently they had also spotted it and were concerned but (and I quote) "knew we'd sort it out so didn't bother to do anything" I'd love to keep him, but fairly sure Tango will NOT have friendly intentions, so assuming that no owner comes forward we will have to try and get him rehomed. He's a darling wee thing, very very friendly and will make a super pet so hopefully should find a home.
Gertie
Thank goodness you took him in. In this weather, poor little thing might have starved or frozen. Hope he finds a good home.
Seagazer
Thank goodness you were able to take him in. Do you think your parents might keep him?
Lavenders_Blue
Well my parents have gone from, 'He must be gone by tomorrow', to 'Well, he'll need to go by Wednesday as we're going out for the day,' to 'We'd love to keep him but we've got a couple of holidays planned this year.' Watch this space! Apparently he spent all yesterday evening curled up on my Dad's lap, the pair of them snoozing away together In total he had 3 teas last night and 2 breakfasts this morning so I don't think he'll be in a hurry to go anywhere! I've got an appointment with the vet nurse this morning to get him scanned for a microchip but am hopeful now that he may have an owner, apparently someone phoned the vets a few days ago to report a lost tabby near our village so with any luck it's our little chap and he can be reunited (or maybe they'd like him anyway?!). The Dogmother
Fingers crossed that that is the owner, and well done for taking him in. I once took in a kitten which stayed for 2 weeks (no news from the vets) then left; I guess its owners must have gone on holiday. My two hounds are tolerant of our cats unless they move quickly (triggers their prey instinct) but will chase others.
lillybettybabs
Sounds like he has chosen his home
dancing cloud
Sounds like little kitty is getting his furry paws well under your parents' table My waifs and strays both stayed with me and I refer to them as my foundlings or garden gifts, but the garden wasn't to blame for the two that came from the shelter . Good job they're gorgeous !
Lavenders_Blue
Well the cat on the vets' books wasn't our chap and he didn't have a microchip either. The cat rescue is full and won't take him so we are stuck with him until (if?!) we can find him a new home. I suppose we might have to give it a go with Tango if we can't find anyone to take him, although I'd rather he went somewhere he isn't going to be persecuted. There are posters up around the village now and in the village shop so there's not a lot more I can do to find his owners. The thought had crossed my mind about his owners going on holiday, but he's so wee I can't imagine they'd leave him and he was so hungry - surely someone would have been feeding him? He's certainly made himself at home with my Mum and Dad but they are adament that they are not keeping him.
The Dogmother
Aww, bless him. I'd install him at your place, with a litter tray, pop a muzzle and lead on Tango and introduce them carefully, just make sure that the cat has an escape route and don't leave them alone together. See how it goes.
Lavenders_Blue
I will give that a go if we can't find a home for him. I am working on the basis that if your lurchers can live with cats then it must be possible! Maybe he'll give her a biff on the nose and put her off? He's tested his claws out on me and they are certainly sharp!
The Dogmother
Just watch the dog's eyes! Do you need t borrow a muzzle? I have one that will fit Tango. Mine are getting better but it's work in progress; Biscuit is so laid back and just biffs them if they get too close. Georgie, the neurotic rescue cat, is another matter, she seems to send out fear vibes which trigger the dogs
Lavenders_Blue
I'll let you know DM. If we can't find him a home then I will ask if I can borrow a muzzle. However a friend of a friend is interested in having him She has stables and land behind her house so a perfect home for a cat She just wants to leave it a few more days before deciding in case an owner comes forward, which is fair enough. Lavenders_Blue
Aww that's lovely. You clearly have achieved cat-dog harmony in the LBB household!

The Dogmother
Aww, I like that one. Wonder how Foggy will get on with the puppies.
Seagazer
Not that I'm trying to persuade you to give the kittie a home with you and yours..... Sorry the photo has cut off poor Toby! Cookie took to the kittens really well, she gives respect to our older cat Sophie, Sophie takes no prisoners. She's a grumpy nearly 15 year old cat. bluekarin
I long for the day that my cats and dog are that close. One cat keeps beating her up and the other will sit next to her, but then runs away - which in dog speak is play!
Cheeky Chooky
Awww, good on you and your Mum & Dad for looking after him, poor little mite. Hope he finds a loving new home very soon *hug*
Lavenders_Blue
Well I think Kitty has found a home. I had a chat with my friend's friend today and she would like to give him a home She would just like to leave it one more week in case the owner does come forward to claim him, but if that doesn't happen, as I suspect it won't, then he will be going to live with her, her other cat, her dog, horses, kids... oh and stables, tack room and fields to go mousing in. It will be cat paradise! Fingers crossed that she doesn't change her mind between now and then (or that my Mum doesn't become too attached and refuse to give him up, which could happen ). Purplemaniacs
It sounds like he is one lucky Kitty. I hope it all works out and he has a loving home. Well done for taking him in L_B Chrissie

Lavenders_Blue
Keeping fingers crossed, although my dad was heard talking yesterday about how they might be able to fit a cat flap into their back door, so who knows Mum is still adamant that they're not keeping him. I can see Muggins here ending up with him yet! (Although really hoping he WILL go to his new home).
Lavenders_Blue
Well little puss-cat toddled off to his new home this morning, I am so pleased he has found a lovely home. My mum on the other hand has been crying all day and wishing she'd kept him, she has got really attached to the wee chap! We'll go and visit him once he's settled in.
