Last Saturday night I couldn't get warm, couldn't settle. Eventually went to bed early. It was the start of a head cold. This week has been so difficult as it's been the worst head cold I've ever had. Teaching has been tough. I was sent home Wednesday and took Thursday off too. There's always pressure to return to work so I returned to work Friday and struggled through.

 

Today is Saturday and my head is still full of mucous. I developed earache earlier and have totally lost hearing in one ear. I feel my ear drum will perforate before the evening is over. My family have been totally unsympathetic. I have honestly felt wiped out yet they just think I'm sitting around. I need TLC.

 

If my ear does rupture will I be able to go to work??

Go to A&E....this needs to be sorted! Go now and get there before the Saturday night drinkers do!!!

Lots of sympathy for you.

 

Please don't go to work Monday if you are not well. You might wear yourself out & be more succeptible to bugs & getting sick again if you are not fully better. I understand the pressure (teacher as well). I went in when ill a few months ago & i wish i stayed off as i didnt feel right for 2 weeks after. I wished I'd stayed off an extra day until I actually felt better, but went back too soon because I felt guilty for being off (but who can help being ill?).

You have my utmost sympathy. I used to get lots of earaches when I was little and they hurt so much. I do hope it gets better soon. As its been a week, I'd try and see or at least speak to your dr on Monday as you might have an infection which could need antibiotics or ear drops. Hope you feel better soon.

 

On a asking for sympathy note, I have had a dreadful gastro bug for three days now. Thought I was better today, it seems not Horrid stomach pains and other unmentionables. It's making taking the dog for a walk uncomfortable as I can't go very fast as I get bad cramps and then feel very hot. Hope it's gone soon, but according to NHL direct it can take 4-7 days to clear! I don't think I have ever had such bad stomach pain. Well, labour aside.

If your not already taking decongestants they will damp down mucous production also chew gum if you can,this is supposed to encourage drainage of fluid in ear.When I got ear infections I used to get relief holding hot water bottle to ear.Hope your already feeling better.

You have my sympathy, I have the cold but fortunately no ear ache. I too was freezing on Friday as was DS and we both had a sore throat by bedtime. I know what you mean about others not understanding about how wiped out it makes you feel you should go to docs for antibiotics for the ear infection you're hearing is precious. I avoid antibiotics if I can because of the resistance issue but there are times when you just need them and this is one.

 

Hope you feel better soon and take the day off tomorrow if you need too, you ace no use to them ill and will just spread it around.

get well soon all of you - OH had a virus went on for weeks - felt very low. He now has a cold sore so told him no kissing as I have to work and dont want to face the public with a herpee on board. Not unsympathetic - i got same virus and struggled on as we girls do. Get well soon.

We have the same and no voice...awful dripping tap for a nose and feeling pretty miserable, and lemsip stings the throar something terrible .

The worst ear ache I ever had was like a hot screwdriver being put through my head and with a lot of awful noise right in my ear.

I sincerely hope your ear is not as bad as that.

I came down with that horrible gastro bug Monday night. I felt all shivery and sick and weak and didn't dare stray too far from the loo Thankfully it wore off by Thursday, but now I think i'm coming down with the cold you are are all talking about .. Ive got a sore throat, headache and feel really warm .. Oh joy, arn't winter viruses the pits!!!

Oh hennypenny , so sorry we have passed this nasty flu/cold onto you, if its any consolation my lovely DD and GD who gave it to me are well after 5 days.

But not me I now have no voice and antibiotics for throat and chesty cough.

Get plenty of fluids and rest lots of rest. Hope your well soon .
