Helmet Hair And Freezing Ears

Recommended Posts

I recently started to cycle to work and just for fun. I wear a cycling helmet and tuck my hair behind my ears to keep it out of the way. My ears are getting so cold :( and I am getting ear ache.

Tuesday the temperature was -1c when I cycled to work at 8am. Today there was a strong cold wind both to and from work.

I can't fit a hat under my cycle helmet and my hair sticks out and flaps about if I try and leave it covering my ears.

Can any one suggest ways to keep my ears warm and ache free?

Thank you :D

Thanks for the ideas :D

I forgot to mention I have to put in earphone style ear defenders on part of the journey as it involves cycling along the end and sides of a runway. Not fun cycling with Tornado jets taking off and landing within feet or so it seems of me. I can actually see the pilot and navigator as they fly within inches :lol: of my head. The noise in my ears is deafening  and it hurts, a lot :( . I need to be able to pop the defenders in very quickly. Will go for the cotton wool for now which I can pull out quickly, with a view to buying a headband. I not sure the balaclavas are for me, especially the scary one

You need what I use to do the chooks in. A polo pancho. It's from a shopping channel, I think Ideal World. It's a fleecy sort of scarf with a tube bit on the top. It keeps your chest & back warm & you can pull the tube bit up just enough to keep your chin & ears warm. I couldn't be without mine, when the East wind blows off the mountain! Brrrr!
