Egg announcements, what do yours shout?

Recommended Posts

I'm listening to one of my new girls, Nimbus, issuing her egg announcement: BA-CAAARCK-bok-BOK-bok-bok, BA-CAAARCK-bok-BOK-bok, BA-CAAARCK-bok-BOK, BA-CAAARCK-bok-BOK-bok-bok etc.....

In the past my other girls have just gone: bok-bok-bok-bok-BA-CAAARCK

Does Nimbus just not know the words yet? Or are there different ways of shouting it - what do yours do?

I have one white silkie who shouts her head off and no egg at all appears. :shameonu: I think she just likes to put off the other girls who lay their eggs in total silence (Well perhaps there is a little whispered gossip between hens in the nest box at the same time. It reminds me of the bath scenes in 'The Village' for anyone who has watched that)

The big girls all like to join in if there's an anouncement to be made but you can normally tell who's who. Dolly and Kitty are quite gravelly, Eccles is from her boots deep, Fraggle & Sprocket (I like to think it's their Frenchness) have an almost flegmy note to it. The Awfuls are short and loud, Lisa-Marie (top bird) is a soloist and Paxo likes to do pre egg announcements for everyone too. Poor litle Freckles (bottom) just drops and get out asap. Persil and Aerial are short and sweet. Bok Bok BokBokBokBBOOOOOOOKKKKK repeated as necessary.

Which ever way it's good and loud. I worry about my neighbours complaining but (touch wood) no one has.

The littluns like a good sing too. I can hear them when I'm in the kitchen through the cooker extractor fan vent which is near their run.

Mine just make a bloomin racket ! And little Clarabel likes to run around squawking she is though the egg stalker she likes to follow and observe all laying activity with the occasional input from herself

Princess Leia your comment had me spitting my tea over the laptop but I hope that your girls lay you something soon x

Mine do the bok, bok, bok, barrrrrk thing but not necessariły when laying - tends to be sunshine related as they really onły do it in the summer.

I have a Freckles too! Freckles the Speckles (she's a speckledy!)

You are right - I hadn't thought of that but it does seem to be only in the summer. It is a lot louder than my cockerel and seems to be timed just for when all the neighbours have their doors open and are in the garden :oops:
