amys garden
Flo seemed so broody the other hot day making vollocoraptor noises fluffing herself up, when I only found two eggs in the coop This morning i thought "here we go again...broody" Later I shut the coop to keep her out but she seemed SO stressed, panting and jumping onto the coop I thought I'd better just let her in to brood and opened the coop door. In she went only to come out ten minuets later having laid an egg at 3 in the afternoon Oops
Hayleybug
You may find she has still gone broody though, my clementine is broody for the 3rd time this year and was showing all the signs so i put her in the anti broody cage and she laid an egg in it the first day! She stopped though after that one and has been raging broody since then (nearly 3 weeks!!) i had to take her out of the broody cage after 7 days, she looked like a battery chicken and thats not what i want! Chucking her off the nest at the moment as often as possible but might have to try the dunking method... Is she still broody today?
amys garden
Oh yes I think so! She's not spent so much time in the coop but she hasn't laid an egg today
Hayleybug
naughty girls arent they, plus my other two seem to think its holiday time and tend to stop laying at the same time too so we've only had 2 eggs in the last week!
amys garden
Hi Haleybug Gosh there silly ! We had three eggs today Phew as OH is threatening the Pot Keep telling him I love my girls as garden pets the egg laying is a bonus!
Hayleybug
I know what you mean, my oh is getting even less interested in the chooks now theres not even any eggs to keep him distracted from the fact that they 'take up a quarter of the garden and poo everywhere'. Think its back to the broody cage with clementine when i get in from work!
charly1979
The other day my mum was visiting she went to see my girls, she said oh Clarabels in the cube watching Isla I said oh yeah our little egg stalker so mum got her out had a cuddle literally seconds after mum put her down there was an egg in the run, looks like on that occasion she was for once waiting to lay ? Whoops My hubby is rather impressed with our egg production so much so he seemed to be collecting eggs whilst I was away with work for 3 days 21 bloomin eggs in a pile ! He is also a hubby that is very quick to comment when egg production is anything less than 100%
Luvachicken
This broody business must be contagious as Suzie has just come out of the broody cage today. She too paced up and down after being first put in it and when I woke her up the next morning there was a beautiful little egg. I knew she was broody though because she had been growling at me and making her feathers stand on end. Do you chickens ever grow out of being broody I wonder ? amys garden
Luvachiken they probably stop being broody when stop laying and are elderly They're so silly and fussy. I've just extended the run for my three and of course they've eaten every green thing in there and now they're whining to come out again No WAY little hens I'd like my veg garden to grow a bit first!
