nanarock
Hi everyone I have just adopted a 2 year old chocolate brown chicken whose feathers have a Green tinge to them her name is Claudelia and her last owner doesnt know what breed she is.Any Ideas? I am introducing her slowly to my 3 Amber star chickens as instruction on the omlet site. She looks healthy to me, but her previous owner said she doesnt thinks she has ever laid any eggs. She was one of three chickens unfortunately her friends got foxed, hence me adopting. The other 2 chickens rarely laid eggs either. She said she only got one egg from the 3 chickens every few months. I find this odd as my 3 lay every day. I am quite happy to keep her as she is rather beautiful. I will take a photo of her and try to attach it to the omlet site. Any suggestions why Claudelia and her friends didnt lay, do some breeds lay so infrequently? Thanks
Purplemaniacs
If you can post a picture of her that would be helpful. My Onlet Pepperpot had a green tinge to her feathers, she was very pretty when the sun shone on her. Perhaps she needs worming, that may help with the lack of eggs. Good luck with the introduction, I think slowly is a good idea. Chrissie
Snowy
She sounds lovely, but a photo is definitely needed to identify her! She could be a pure breed - rhode island reds have lovely dark chestnut feathers with a green shine. That may also explain her lack of laying - pure breeds don't lay as many as hybrids, plus if she is an older girl her laying will have reduced anyway. Look forward to pictures of her! Ain't Nobody Here
I'm no good at identifying breeds but my contribution is getting the photo on here for you (it's a bit big but should help!) .
Olly
I was going to suggest Maran Cuivre - mine is black with a greenish tint in sunlight.
WitchHazel
Is she a very large hen, with white soles on her feet? Could be Australorp if so. Although I've just seen the edge of her eyes, so I don't think she is. Australorps have very dark eyes.
nanarock
Thanks for putting picture on forum, Her legs are grey. I have wormed her with flubenvet and my girls at the same time, even though I dont think they have a problem and will do that for next 7 days as per instructions. I have dusted her for mites and lice as well for good measure. I will keep them apart for next 3 days and then will give supervised sessions of free ranging to see what happens. Redwing
She is a hybrid like your Ambers. very pretty girl who looks in good condition Try worming her, this can have a surprising effect on the amount of eggs laid
