gavclojak
Good afternoon I have just started anweeksnworning program using flubenvet, the girls usually have a handful of corn late afternoon, is it still ok to carry on giving during this period and the occasional mealworms? Thanks in advance
Luvachicken
No treats allowed at all for the week that you are worming them
gavclojak
OMG they are going to be bereft!! Thanks for that help
Luvachicken
They will be Ok. Just don't let them see you with anything nice in your hands. They will forgive you when you give them a reward for eating up all their flubenvet
gavclojak
Today is the first day with flubenvet and there were two poos in the run that had small grains of what looked like rice. Does anyone think that could be worms! We did give them about 5 maggots on Tuesday (don't ask!!!!) could it have been the remains if those? I hope it was the latter as they are all a good weight and no obvious signs of an infestation!
gavclojak
Ok so I think I have got my answer:( this morning after there regular big poos there were two runny ones, with one long, what looked like cotton in each, I guess that's a worm. Gutted really didn't think they would have them, only got then seven weeks ago and thought they were regularly wormed. Boo hoo
good_egg
Don't be sad. It's expected given how much they grub around and you are dealing with so just feel like a good chicken mum for sorting so promptly. Did you get powder or pre mixed pellets? Later in the week I mix some powder in with corn so they can have a little treat.
merlina
As good-egg says, if you want to give treats, you can mix the powder with their treats (I do it for a week's worth at a time so it's not too fiddly). Don't feel bad about the worming thing. There was nothing much wrong with my hens the first time I wormed them and I wasn't sure it was necessary, but did because people here said it was so important. The difference in the hens after a few days was amazing - just much perkier and livelier hens! So I do them pretty regularly every 3/4 months now
gavclojak
Oh thank you so much, i feel a tad better now, you guys all seem to know your hens so well it constantly amazes me! i brought the powder as mine are on ex-batts crumb so i mixed a weeks worth and am using that, and i am sure they will appriciate the treat but think i will wait a few days before giving them one. I treat the ground about twice a week with ground sanitiser, is one better than the other? i think mine is nettex...also do the poo pick up twice a day but have soo many flies at the moment both green/blue bottles....RANK.... also....as they obviously have worms (not sure if one or all has them, maybe the one who is in moult?)is it worth re worming in a few weeks? Thanks again you wonderful people!
merlina
Yes, as you've found worms, I would repeat in about a month. Can't help on sanitisers as I don't use them - I just move the run around (although if I keep getting morehens that may have to change )
Valkyrie
I coat raisins with flubenvet and give it all a good shake. They glare at me because although they gobble the lot, they also know the taste isn't like it usually is. If they don't eat anything else I know they get some flubie in them that way. And raisins are sufficiently sticky to coat quite nicely.
gavclojak
Thanks that's a good idea, mine have not had raisins before so they won't know any difference, thanks again x
