auntielizzie
As summer draws to an end and we look forward to the long dark winter nights I just wanted to say what a wonderful summer it has been for chicken keeping Apart from the constant rain and all the mud we all struggled with in the spring, this year has been amazing I have spent hours and hours in the garden pottering around with the girls all happily pootling about in their FR area making multiple dust bath holes and clucking happily to themselves , sunbathing and generally looking very content I've been clever with my annual leave this year, managing to take a week off in early July and two weeks in August, where the girls have been out all day until quite late at night and I have really enjoyed being able to spend so much time with them. It's so sad thinking how in just a few weeks time I will hardly see them as it will be dark when I let them out in the morning before I go to work and then dark again when I get home so they will have all gone to bed already Hoping we don't have all that snow again this year Maybe next year will bring some new chickens This morehens is a terrible thing - I'm always making up a fantasy chicken shopping list in my head I do love my chickens
Luvachicken
Yes, it has been a lovely Summer hasn't it, and I really don't want Winter to come. I usually like Winter with it's frosts and cold but this year I just don't want it - all that time indoors. At the moment I don't have a job so I will still get to spend a lot of time with my girls in the daylight. Fingers crossed for a short Winter, not like last years dragging on, and here's to next Summer
jjiande
This is such a lovely thread. This has been our first summer with chickens and we have all loved it. It's been so much fun having them potter around the garden with us in the evening sunshine. I've already started thinking about how odd it will be on short days when I will hardly get to see them/let them out of their run because of work. Their run is big, but I will miss it. Still, it will be nice thinking back to this.
Choo-chook
It will be 5 weeks tomorrow since I got my 3 banties and its been fantastic. I must admit that I've been taking advantage of the great weather so the garden's looking great (good excuse to hang out with the girls!), I'm already planning for the winter though and yesterday spent all day pressure washing the paths. Everything these days surrounds the chickens, planning on getting a raincoat from lidl tomorrow that will fit on top of my dressing gown, will look even more like a mad chicken lady. Next thing I'm getting is a WIR, fed up crouching under a golf umbrella talking to them!

UKMARCH
I agree its been great I do feel a bit mean though as have restricted mine to their WIRs and the flowers and grass are looking better than they have for years! I have spent a lot of time out there too and my husband has built a patio around the run and we bought a new bistro set so we can have coffee and chat to them, the only problem was when it came it was the wrong colour so I had to repaint the chicken shed to match! Lavenders_Blue
Agreed - we have been really spoilt this summer. I've loved the long warm days and being able to sit out in the garden with the girls. I'm not keen on winter approaching but I dare say I won't have much say in the matter
