pavo121
I have noticed one of my Pekin's keeps shaking her head. She is absolutely fine and is running around, just wondering if this is normal behaviour?? Thanks all

Luvachicken
Not sure I'm much use but one of mine - a buff plymouth rock - has a wobbly head. She has had it for a while. I did take her to the vets for it, because friends on here suggested she had sour crop, but all he could tell me was that she didn't have sour crop. I think she banged her head one day, when she got frightened and flew into the roof of the run. She does everything else normally, except she hasn't laid an egg for a while, and her head wobbles every now and then. I hope you find a solution for your poorly girl. Patricia W
I don't know if Pekins get it, but Silkies and Polands get a neurological disorder which exhibits as a shaking head. It tends to start at about 4 months, get worse and there is no cure. I lost one of my Poland Frizzles to it. I hope this isn't the case with your Pekin. pavo121
Thanks all for your replies. She is quite active and happy in herself, though she is the only hen that refuses to be picked up!
libby22
My girl Pepper started to do this when her new feathers were coming through. She was scratching at them and then followed with a constant head twitch/shake. When I checked her, she lad a lot of new feathers coming in around her neck and crop, which were covered by other feathers so you couldn't see initially. I think she was just really uncomfortable bless her.
gongladosh
it could also be either: - needs worming (gapeworm: is her beak open when she shakes her head?) - or alternatively she could be trying to rearrange the contents of her crop
