paulad
they worked for us - put Matlida right in her place- she sulked for a week and wudnt speak to us !! haha but it definately stopped the problem. She still has it on now (3 or so weeks later) and we will leave it on until it falls off itself our problem was feather eating which isnt the same as urs but it defo pulled her down a peg or two. make sure the prongs are at the top of their nostrils near their eyes. good luck
gavclojak
The very wonderful jimnpaula drove all the way over to help me today, what an amazing thing to do....but the bumpa bits didn't work out as we hoped. Paula has taken hen solo home for respite care as she was so unhappy. I think it was clear to all who saw her, she was so unhappy on her own but clearly couldn't go back with the mean girls for the foreseeable....she was so battered and pecked, she needs a break from they, she was sitting against the fence today and they were even pecking through the fence at her..... I hope that when she has feathered a little and got a bit of confidence I will be able to have her home with one of Paula's placid girl who is going to be a friend for solo. I really feel like I have let her down but I just want her to be happy and have the company of a flock, however small that may be. And a massive thank you to everyone for you continued support and especially Paula who went all out to help me today. Massive love and respect to you all especially those who have had these issues and managed to get through it without re homing ....I wish I could have...the guilt is palpable
Chortle Chook
Well done to you, Paula for your help and don't worry gavclojak. It is really nice that you care so much about wee Solo. Chin up I'm sure the outcome will be better for her.
Chickabee
I think everyone will agree you did everything you could for your chicken. Please don't feel guilty. In fact you should be proud that you tried so hard and had it in you to hand her over, when the chips were down. Good luck for the future Sonya
gavclojak
I am so overwhelmed by your kindness I am actually in tears right now, think its a bit of relief, sadness and exhaustion x
Patricia W
The forum comes to the rescue again! You did all you can so just relax now and enjoy the others. The idea of her returning with a placid friend is a good one, but don't be too sad if she doesn't return.
gavclojak
Thanks Patricia, I am hopeful but also realistic, if she is happy and settled thrn she may be happier where she is, time will tell. I am just so greatful for the help I have had. I had some great advice and some kind offers of re homing.... The omleteers really steped up and I am overlwelmed x
Luvachicken
I'm glad you have managed to get help for your poor girlie How lovely of Paula to come over to help and then take her for you. It must be such a relief knowing that she is safe and away from those pecky beaks.
jjiande
Have been following this thread for the past few days and have really felt for you. I only have two hens (although we got them around the same time as you) so didn't have any advice, but I wanted to say two things. Firstly, I think it's been amazing how supportive and lovely everyone on the forum has been about this. I know I've really appreciated people's advice and being able to read posts too when I've had concerns. Secondly, and probably more importantly, you really have nothing to feel guilty about. Quite the opposite of having failed your girl here, you have put everything you possibly could, and more, into finding the right solution for her. I realise how sad it is, but you have done the very best by her. I really hope it works out well in the end, and I hope you can start to enjoy chicken keeping again. gavclojak
Ah once again you guys I can't thank you enough, I just had a message saying solo was settling down for the night. How amazing is Paula though???
libby22
I have just caught up with your thread - what a smashing thing to do Paula - really lovely. Please don't feel guilty about Solo - if you had left her there to be pecked and done nothing about it - then you could feel guilty, but protecting her, worrying about her, renting houses, asking for advice from others - you name it - that is a brilliant hen owner and one who simply could not have done more. I would have done the same in your shoes so no guilt allowed Sending you a hug - hope you get a bit of rest now and are able to enjoy your girls. jimnpaula
I can't help it, it's my nature to want to fix things if I see a problem, and 13 yrs ambulance service has taught me to 'do something now'. When I found out how relatively close you were, well... Anyway, Hen Solo has been installed in the hospital cage overnight after a rather long journey (really should have thought about travelling in rush hour) and happily tucked into the sweetcorn that came with her, then settled down to sleep. I think the food you put in a bag has been left in the run, but not to worry. It was lovely to meet you Lisa, now have a rest and I'll keep you posted Edit: and thank you for lunch! Pearls007
Gee thank you guys you are all amazing, paulad, I will try everything I can and will fight tooth and nail to keep her. Redsunset, thanks your lovely and your kind words are a comfort,I live in Bromley if anyone can help with the bumpa bits. I have had two kind offers of homes for her so that has at least taken the pressure off, I know there are options should everything else fail, Wouldn't it be great if there were an omlet coffee club where we could all meet:)) xxx Thanks again guys, can't tell you how glad I am I joined this forum xx I'm from Bromley - but now living a few miles away in Caterham.....! So a coffee could be a plan - anyone else?

redsunset
What a perfect outcome. That made me smile this afternoon and now peace and harmony is restored and also what a lovely thing to do for a fellow omleteer....
gavclojak
Thank you, funny enough I just had a message. She has apparently had a few close encounters but was not submissive so that's good. Maybe being away from the bullies will give her some confidence. I hope so for her sake and indeed what an amazing thing Paula has done, even if she had not taken her, the fact she came all the way over to help me is above and beyond isn't it?
