soapdragon
Sorry, couldn't find the 'old' thread on this soooooo....... Heard on the wireless news this am that relatives of Richard are challenging his proposed burial at Leicester in favour of York - this one is clearly going to go on and on and on etc¬! I thought that archi protocol is that excavated remains are reburied as near to the excavated site as possible; I wonder if this will 'go legal' It could do, I suppose, if there is strong enough public opinion. Leicester_H
Already gone legal - See http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/High-Court-setting-battle-decide-Ricahrd-III-s/story-20221454-detail/story.html also http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25098783 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-23929989
Bramble
Yes, it's getting a tad out of hand. It seems a shame not to just let the poor chap rest in peace, whatever one's views on what he did or didn't do. One thing that puzzles me is that surely he would have been a Catholic (I think), so wouldn't his choice be to be buried in a Catholic church? Poor chap, time he was left in peace, he was probably quite happy in the car park!
Lavenders_Blue
Poor chap, time he was left in peace, he was probably quite happy in the car park! Nice one Bramble, these are my thoughts exactly! When I was watching the news last night, where I saw all this was still rumbling on, I couldn't help thinking that he probably doesn't give two hoots where he is buried and in fact would probably be quite happy back in the car park! Leicester_H
More delays !!! http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Richard-III-High-Court-legal-battle-adjourned/story-20222576-detail/story.html
soapdragon
Rather unfortunate pose that the camera has caught Phillipa in! One wonders who is paying for all this legal obfuscation Good point made earlier about Richard being Catholic too
Leicester_H
! One wonders who is paying for all this legal obfuscation If the University side lose, they have to pay the costs. If the Plantagenet Alliance lose, the tax payer pays the costs - so they have nothing to lose by taking it to court.
soapdragon
I wonder if the University will give in as, if they lose, it will clearly be very expensive. If I have it correctly, no one seems sure who the Plantaganet Alliance actually are tho........seems only fair for them to be upfront about their credentials if they are taking such drastic action. Possibly a group of disaffected re enactors? I wonder if Richard ever actually made his wishes known...if so and he wanted to be laid to rest in York then fair enough but, in the absence of any personal wishes being recorded and/or surviving then, IMHO, it should be left as agreed. Surely the most important thing is for him to have a suitable acknowledged resting place in consecrated ground?
kissinuk
I say bury him in Fotheringhay where he was born, saves all the arguing (and gives me even more history to pass on my way to work ).
Charlottechicken
I suppose that makes sense, as his father is buried in the church I think. The tourists might ruin the village though!
