Favourite Christmas songs

Recommended Posts

I was just reading the suggestion by Olly on another Christmassy themed thread, that there should be a Christmas song thread, so thought I would start one!

I was in the process of drafting a blog post on my favourite Christmas songs, and I have the following three as the ones I never quite tire of:

Greg Lake - I believe in Father Christmas

Coventry Carol - Think I prefer a proper choir singing this, like the Westminster Cathedral chior

Ukranian Bell Carol (or Carol of the Bells) - probably the Trans Siberian Orchestra version

So, what are your favourite Christmas songs?

Ooh thanks Charlottechicken, kept thinking I must start this!

The Pogues/Kirsty 'Fairytale of New York'

Mike Oldfield 'Tubular Bells'

Chris de Burgh 'A spaceman came travelling'

Carols: I love all the traditional ones of course, another favourite is 'Jesus Christ the Apple Tree' which you don't hear very often.

And (for classical music lovers) I really love Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols - my choir are singing it this year.

I love The Pogues/Kirsty McColl 'Fairytale of New York' and, for the cheese factor, I also love Shakin' Stevens 'Merry Christmas Everyone'. You can't best a bit of Shaky in his Christmas jumper!

I also love Christmas Carols, and if I am doing any Christmas baking, I like to have Handel's 'Messiah' on in the background - something I picked up from my Mum.

Fairytale of New York is my fav and second place is all the rest.Maybe it's because we only here them for 4 weeks each year but I do like them all for different reasons. They bring back such memories of different stages in my life, remind me of different work parties and friends who I have lost touch with. The Wham one was the default play tune on an electronic organ one of the kids got one year and I think it literally was on hundreds of times that Christmas,we all laugh when we hear it.

The background music from The Snowman was always played for the entrance and exit of the children during their primary school Christmas plays, so that brings back memories.

Another fan of Fairytale of New York here.

I also love Santa Baby, by Eartha Kitt.

Also I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus.

There aren't many Christmas songs that I don't like to be honest, because as previously said they are only around for a short period, and help get us into the mood.

I love most Christmassy songs but really love, if I can spell it, 'in dolce jublio' or at least I think that's what it's called and 'Little Donkey'

Last year we had a 2 hour zumba party and one of the best bits was doing zumba to Shakin Stevens Merry Christmas Everyone - the best workout I've ever had :D
