Richard
Hi Four new young ladies joined us today; 2 Buff Sussex (Peckham and Rye) one Maran (Liz) and one North Holland Blue (Daisy). they are all lovely, but the Buff Sussex are simply beautifull. I don't have photos of them all yet as it's difficult to get good pictures in their run tonight with the sun being very bright. However I do have photos of Daisy and Peckham; Daisy Peckham (isn't she fantastic?);
Mrs Frugal
Oh wow, Richard. The Buff Sussex is gorgeous! I've got one on my list for when the run's completed as they really are pretty hens. Congratulations on the new arrivals. Hope they settle in quickly.

Richard
They are just georgeous! Liz (the maran) and Daisy (the North Holland Blue) took themselves up to bed in the Cube without any help at all - I went out at about 9.20 and there were four hens in the Cube - Trinny & Suzanna (who have spent a couple of nights there) and Liz (named after my Mum who is 80 this year) and Daisy (named for my Gran). Peckham and Rye, the Sussex, weren't quite so bright and couldn't fathom the ladder so I've had to help them up! chocchick
I want a buff sussex, they are gorgeous Never heard of North Holland Blue would lve to see a picture of the Maran.
Richard
Hi Chocchick In the pictures at the beginning of the thread Liz is the Maran and Daisy is the North Holland Blue - there's not much difference although Daisy (North Holland) is a lighter, more blue/grey colour. She also has some feathers on the outside of her legs, abd her legs seem lighter than the Maran's - Liz (Maran) legs are slightly darker in colour with no feathers. Apparently, if you want to get technical, the French breeds of Marans have feathered legs but the English breeds don't! If you want some more photos let me know; its so sunny and hot here today that all of the girls are resting in the shade.
Richard
They are settling in, although Suzanna is quite a bully. Peckham and Rye are very placid- Liz and Daisy are really nervy. Still, they all seem to be managing with only minor squables and upsets and no serious damage to anybody ....... yet Daisy and the Sussex girls Ok then, you go first

The Dogmother
They are gorgeous Richard! The buff sussex look a lot like my newbie Jude, she's a buff columbian wyandotte bantam - the columbian bit makes her sound like a type of cocaine
