Leicester_H
Hi I finally sorted out the photos and posted how well my ex-bats are doing - wish I hadn't now - was just tempting fate. http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=96075 They all seem slower when the weather is quite cold and are much livelier when slightly warmer. However, over the last few days I have noticed that Didge has been 'slower' than the others and has been standing puffed up. She came out today and ran to get treats - but I know for previous experience (unfortunately) that they do this. Have seen her eat and drink and on a quick inspection I couldn't feel anything unusual. They were wormed about a month ago. No specific symptoms but she doesn't seem right - so unless there's a big improvement by the morning, I'm taking her to the vet (no point today as out of hours vet were hopeless with chickens) So may I request a collective Omlet crossing of fingers please ? Thanks, H
mollyripkim
Fingers crossed here. I don't think this prolonged weather is helping, hope she gets up bright and perky tomorrow and was just having an off day today.
Dolly
They sometimes get those symptoms if there's a soft egg on the way, having said that, it could be any number of things but I hope she's on the mend this morning. Keeping fingers crossed for you
Leicester_H
They sometimes get those symptoms if there's a soft egg on the way, having said that, it could be any number of things but I hope she's on the mend this morning. Keeping fingers crossed for you Thanks - didn't check eglu for eggs until this pm and there was a dodgy egg below the bars - have no idea when it was laid or by which hen. Any way, Didge was still looking poorly first thing and so phoned vet - got appointment for 9.45. She examined Didge, couldn't find any lumps or bumps (which was a relief) and said her crop was OK - contained some but not a lot of food. Took temperature - which was high - so probably has an infection. So she gave her an antibiotic injection (Baytril) and an anti-inflamatory injection (metacam) and we have to give her oral baytril for 6 days starting tomorrow (hopefully, she will eat it on a small cube of bread - so still need fingers crossed please). Vet said if no better after 48 hours we should take her back and to keep an eye on the others. She thought that if the others were going to catch anything from her, they would have done so by now - so no need to separate (which might have simply caused her more stress). Don't even ask about the bill ! Here's hoping that lot does the trick, H
