Space Chick
My name is Debs and I'm a woolaholic! This is quite a serious problem I realised today when I took delivery of 2kg! Yeah that's right 2kg of wool from EBay and realised that storing it was going to be an issue. I have told my husband that I can't buy anymore wool until I have knitted with most of it. I have 3 under bed wheeled storage unit bursting at the seems, an ottoman so full that I now have to put something heavy on it for it to keep closed and I have my "current wool" which fills the shelf on my coffee table. It genuinely is an addiction I know people think I knit fast, but i probably have about 3 years worth of wool easily! Words of encouragement gratefully received! Luvachicken
EWE do indeed seem to have a serious problem I think EWE should BAAAAAA yourself from buying any more. On a more sensible note, I think you are very clever to be able to knit stuff - I can only cast on/off and do knit and purl.
Olly
you need a KNIT - Knitting Negative Input Trial. Don't let yourself buy any more wool till you've knitted at least the equivalent weight from your stash, or given some away. I'm shocked at the amount of your stash. I NEVER stockpile wool, fabric or haberdashery stuff just in case I find the perfect project. Er - which eBay seller did you buy the 2kg of wool from? Purely for research purposes, you understand ... Space Chick
Thanks for both giving me a laugh this morning! I will BAAAAAAA myself and will attempt the KNIT! This ebayer Olly http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sirdar-Supersoft-Aran-knitting-wool-yarn-lovely-green-mix-1000g-/251501699509?pt=UK_Crafts_Knitting_Crochet_EH&hash=item3a8eab61b5 She has a stock pile of Sirdar super soft Aran which is a lovely wool to knit with, and I won a pack of green and a pack of white at what I think is a bargain price! Her home is not smoke free though so you can faintly smell smoke on the wool Luvachicken, that's all I can do as well doesn't stop me knitting clothes though OH suggested that I put all the wool out on the bed and photograph it as a "shame myself" I'm not going to do that though, as it would be too hard to get all the wool back in, although would help me to remember what I have. Anyhow, I doubt it would all fit! Only this morning I remembered that I had a nice grey Merino wool and some orange cotton wool and the last chenille type black and white mix wool I bought, when I put it away I saw I had another black and white chenille type The thing is 90% of the wool I buy, I buy because I'm getting it at a very good price, following a frugal ethic. However, eBay isn't going away any time soon, so I'm going to have to knit with what I have and then and only then I can look again!! I know I'm a fast knitter but still! And the really sad thing is, only at Christmas I had a clear out and sold what I didn't think I'd use.... And that was 10 successful eBay auctions
Guest
I can't resist buying napkins ... unfortunately then I have to throw a party so they get used up I tried knitting once or twice, just couldn't get on with it which is a shame as it seems so relaxing
Charlottechicken
I'm afraid I cannot offer any words of wisdom. Since sorting through mine and mum's loft, I have a huge fabric stash, and am shocked at the amount I have, now it is all together. It is taking over the spare room. I have now vowed to make my own clothes and some for OH. Wish I could knit or crochet, but I have two left hands
Angie
SuperChick , I am in your club I too have a mountain of wool, I bought quite a bit of Aran from a little shop that was closing, enough to keep my GC in woollies for a few years. I too have nowhere to put anymore , but to be honest about it all . It is my hobby and with the cost of it now , I can say I saved A Lot of Money. I love working with my hands , and the texture of wool of all weights is fascinating. But what to do with the left overs I have made blankets , and one still in progress, but still I have wool left over. Is there a person to recycle and use up All my remnants Anyone know of anyone who would like it for charity knits
Mrs Webmuppet
If you don't mind knitting squares there's a charity called Knit a Square ......http://www.knit-a-square.com. I knit or crochet squares out my s"Ooops, word censored!"s for them.
Chickendoodle
I feel your pain. I too have a mountain of wool. I have at least 8 lots of sock wool as I like to make socks in between larger projects, enough aran wool for 2 jumpers, wool for a cardigan for me and I am knitting a blanket through a club which involves making 4 x 2 tone squares each month so I have all the wool for that plus 16 finished squares. I tend to buy the 400g balls of aran when it is on offer as I know that 2 of them make a jumper. However, it does leave an awful lot left over. I have made hats, scarves, a child's jumper but I seem to have accumulated an awful lot. When I have finished my current garment I am determined to knit it all up for dog blankets for Battersea. I have done this before with my leftovers. This is the pattern I used - the paw prints make a a bit more interesting to knit than just plain squares. http://www.whodunnknit.com/2012/03/05/purly-paw-print-blanket/ As I have so much I will make some large blankets as I am sure the larger dogs miss out - it's much easier to make small ones. I have also made dog coats for Battersea. It does feel good knowing that the leftovers have been put to good use
