tinkkletoes
Has anyone ever had to deal with Coccidiosis. i have a legtergic rescue hen. who has been this way for a few weeks. she did have sour crop a few weeks ago. i sorted that out. but she still didn't get back to her normal self. and have tried everything to get her appetite going. she is not showing signs of dying and is still trying to live. i have been doing a lot of internet research as i can't find a specialist vet in my area ( derby if anybody knows of someone) and reading up about Coccidiosis the symptoms seem to be the same as her's. i have ordered COXOID COCCIDIOSIS liquid hope it helps as i,ve run out ideas. any ideas, pointers to sort if she does have it and what do i need to do as it says it can infect all my other ladies. i do always use ditrum powder in the coop. this is my last hope before i have to put her down
Beantree
Only ever had it in a 4 week old chick. I filled her crop with probiotic yoghurt just as a last resort. The vet told me in her condition it was terminal as she was pooing just blood. She was fine and pooing normally a few days later. Then it resurfaced at 6 weeks. Same treatment and never a problem again. Chickens are supposed to be immune to it after 6 weeks, which is when the chick crumb with ACS is switched to growers pellets. She lived to 6 ½ years old incidentally. I hear that adult birds get it but have no experience of that. LeeWeedon is in Derby I think? You could try a crop full of probiotic yoghurt Tinkkletoes. No guarantees it will work and people I have told just don't believe what I did worked! It shouldn't be contagious as it is present everywhere in the environment, so the others must have immunity or they would all have it by now. Mrs_B
I had Coccidiosis in my flock about 2 years ago, and it reared its ugly head again today. I think if they're on the same ground then expect to see it maybe in the future. One of my girls ended up being PTS with Blackhead because she was vulnerable with cocci The first time I tried worming them and an antibiotic medication and after disinfecting everything. This time I have more experience (and my vet) so we are opting for Coxoid and cleaning the WIR and house with Bi-OO-Cyst Disinfectant. I used another disinfectant before but this is more specific to what you're fighting. Try Avipro too, as this helps the good bacteria in the gut! Lots of fluid is good too. Hope everything turns out OK, good luck! x

Tweety
My avian specialist vet recommended the same treatment as Mrs B used - Coxoid and Bi-OO-Cyst - and it sorted out my little flock. Good luck!
