beach chick
just got my latest little package from omlet... but am confused! the garlic instructions are for horses, and the citricidal for people! chucked a teaspoon of garlic into their layers pellets tonight (I give them about a pint glass full in the morning, and depending how much has been eaten, the same again or about half in the evening). but cant fathom the citricidal at all! also got some verm-x; can roughly understand dosage. if i give them that, can we still eat the eggs? thanks for any answers! melons
I put about 6 drops in a container which holds about 4 litres of water. You use it in tiny tiny amounts. Hope that helps Mel
chelsea
loads of people use citricidal on here for chickens - its perfectly safe. Garlic powder - I dont use it, but i do use poultry spice which is another health supplement - I never measure it out, I just mix in a few pinches with their pellets. Verm x - sorry - cant answer that as I use flubenvet and with that you can still eat the eggs
Hen Watch
Yes, you've got the right stuff, garlic (for horses and other animals) and citricidal for people (and my chooks). I'm not sure that there is a right or wrong amount for garlic powder. I use a 5ml teaspoon to feed 4 chickens (about 4 x 120g pellets) and shake it about in the grub feeder. I don't use too much as it stinks and I find the chickens eat it all up no problem. Citricidal - it's sort of thick liquid rather than watery. So I put a little squeezefull in the glug container and fill it up to the top. It will go foamy as you squirt water on it but foam goes if you wiggle the surface of the water. Again, I started off with a little bit and put more in once I knew the chickens were not put off the taste of the water. Can't help with VermX not used it. melons
http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww26eiii.htm see if this helps, but really you use it in tiny amounts, I have used it at work for many varied applications, it is very potent, harmful, but not needed stronger, it tastes revolting & yes is very foamy. arowland17
I use garlic powder and mine pot had horse instructions - I add about 1/4 - 1/2 a teaspoon to their water in the glug - I put it in a big water bottle, fill it up and shake it to mix it in then stick it in the grub and the girls love the garlic flavoured water I don't know how it stinks even with a tiny amount in it! I have heard on here that others have found their hens don't like it though - we put it in their water from the first day so they haven't had any other option with water and it's been fine
Christian
I have been using Vermx for a couple of months now. It says to add 1 scoop per chicken per day into the feed. Mine didn't touch it, so i add 3 scoops to some pellets and add hot water and sweetcorn. They love it! Repeat for 3 days in total. Once a month. As it is a natural product you can eat the eggs
arowland17
I was thinking about getting this Verm-X as would prefer to worm them naturally. I only have 2 chickens and the Verm-X sold on Omlet is enough for 4 chickens for 8 months so should last my 2 for 16 months - all I wanted to know is will it last that long? or will I have to buy it more frequently? welsh sarah
hi just reading this thread please where can i get this vermx from and when should you start worming or do you wait until you think they might have worms sorry for all the questions chicken beginner sarah
Christian
Hi Sarah! Omlet sell it, but i'm sure you can get it elsewhere. I got my 3 girls in July last year, but didn't start worming until a few months ago. They had no signs of worms, but as 2 of them were under the weather with egg peritonitis, and moulting, I thought i would worm them. Its personal choice. I know some people who have never wormed their chickens and they are fine.
