Valkyrie
Now this is a site I happened along when I was looking for lone stars and whether they could be made with fat quarters. Those of you who have known me for years will know this was a perfect one for me to find. And just a reminder that TLAP day (talk like a pirate) is coming soon on September 19th. On holiday then so hubby will be just itching to make sure I do not go home with him! Anyhow I digress and I found the posting on this blog really informative. I like the colours too. I know she thinks her first test wasn't very good, but actually it reminds me of the kaleidoscope I had when I was young. Nothing wrong with that, and I'm sure with a bit of tweaking it would be great. http://pirate-sr.blogspot.co.uk/2011/06/hand-dyes-lone-stars.html Also looked on Youtube at a video about Amish quilting and apparently the centre of the lone star should be darker because a light centre would make it look like a hole - and that's pretty much what the first try star in the blog does. See what happens when it rains - I have to do some sewing or something connected to it!!! Just editing to add - she has araucanas LOL! Plum
Must be a pirate thing. I'm praying for lots of wet days for you, you'll need it crazy woman! I love the idea of combining New York beauty in the design that's a real winner. What colours are you going for?
Valkyrie
I have a lot of fabric from a fuchsia collection from Maywood Studios - it was part of a fat quarter bundle, but when they arrived they were so gorgeous that I set about getting more fabric from the same series but with different shades. Er I have a lot! But this video - if you go to around 2 minutes in - it's the fabrics in that quilt - which is rather fab! Actually she's better to listen to than Eleanor Burns who is a little frustrating at times! Also I like Leah Day - I've been watching some of her free motion tutorials so that I can have a go when my room becomes vacant (and the boy has been viewing places - soooooon, very soooooooon ). But in one of her videos I got distracted as I saw chickens wandering around the garden outside! I'm not sure whether she said at some stage that she was on a homestead or a farmstead. OH not sure about Hereford now as I have pointed out that there is a nice quilt shop there.
Valkyrie
http://www.animasquilts.com/LoneStarLg.html Scroll down to the bottom for the quilt. It has a yardage chart at the top - quite useful if you manage to work out which the quilt is referring to LOL - I think it's the poinsettia one though and not the purple one. Plum
Gorgeous, can you still get the fabrics if you run short? I learnt a lot with Leah day and spent a lot. I now have 'geni' washers and a supreme slider. I even wrapped elastic bands around my free motion foot and bent the bar I didn't know about the chickens must be why she's so good. Valkyrie
No, I've looked and looked. They did run out fairly quickly - there may be some background pale fabric in some places but not the pretty coloured flowers sadly. There was another lovely one around the same time - more pastel shades with daisies called "He Loves Me" I think it was. Not much of that either. Luckily it was when the exchange rate was good - probably the last thing I had from the US. @ all your modifications! She has a Janome too so I thought when I get to it I'm looking to see if I have that metal foot in my collection - I know I have the plastic one but I might need some snippers to modify it if I have to! And I've earmarked the washers and the silicon sheet on Amazon wish list. Got the gloves at the show! I'm raring to go! Six and a half minutes in they get active! Mrs Webmuppet
I have made a quilt similar to a lone star (it was a quilt in a day Orions Star ) if this gives you any inspiration . [/url]
Plum
Wow she makes it look so easy. Mind you having your needle plate flat with the table looks to make it so much easier. I've got the big Perspex extension table but it wouldn't move like that.
Plum
What a lovely quilt. It looks like a lone star to me, the four little ones look great in the corners
Snowy
Beautiful quilts! I've got a pattern for a lone star quilt that came as a pdf from a downloaded quilting magazine. I plan to do it in rainbow colours if I ever get round to it! Can't wait to see how yours com on
Valkyrie
Oooh Mrs W that's gorgeous! I may have to zip over and Ninja nick that! Blazing star/lone star - they have several names I think it depends on the area like Texas calls it one thing and everywhere else claims another name for their part of the country - and perhaps how big it can get. Not sure about that last bit though. Yeah, it makes a big difference when you can sink the machine into the work surface. I had the perspex table originally but when I got my table you will never go back to the other way - although I have kept mine just in case! You may be waiting a long time Snowy for mine! But for the time being the inspiration is really getting to me!!!

Valkyrie
You need the volume - it's like an out take but every time she tries to talk the chicken goes bokbokbok and then she starts again and bok bok bok!
Valkyrie
Oh bottoms I did the wrong one - it must have jumped to the next sequence - ooops sorry! Try this one 9 minutes 30 secs in and she goes "hush" but the bird gets a bit louder!
