mullethunter
Just wondering if everyone lets their girls out to FR in horrible weather. Doesn't look like the Pekins really want to come out but I think they probably will if I open the run door but will then huddle miserably under the chair! I think the Wyandottes would quite happily come out though.
Cat tails
Mine demand to at least get to go out... And then run in again... If it rains for a long time, they will venture out and rummage around the garden.
gavclojak
My girls love the rain, it means worms worms and more worms
jesschicken24
If it's a light shower I still let them out of the run but otherwise they've got no chance, partly because they're only allowed to free range when I'm outside.
The Dogmother
If it looks like it'll rain all day, then I leave them in the run; they really aren't bothered. Otherwise, they have the shelter of the run to go in.
mullethunter
Well, I opened the run door. The Pekins came out for a few seconds and then obviously thought 'sod this' and went back to sit on top of their cat box in the dry! The Wyandottes came out as normal though, and when I checked them just now as I shut them in for the night they're both soaking
LizzieLloyd
Mine loves the rain and will merrily root around for grubs attracted by it. I'd open the door and if yours dont want to come out they will stay in the dry - at least they have the option
mrsatroy
My newbie bantams and cochins don't seem to like the rain and stay in under the cube or under the cover part of the classic run. The other 7 don't seem to mind the rain unless its very heavy - they look terrible when they get all wet but the promise of all the worms that the rain brings seems to outweigh looking pretty
MaryHen
I was quite worried about the ladies on Monday with all the rain we had; they didnt want to seek shelter under the cube and where really wet and very muddy!! They seem to be OK now and are looking alot cleaner!
sjp
if it's raining or looks like rain I leave mine looked in otherwise the sill sods just stand out in it if it starts to rain once their out then I have to wait until each group is in the right run as if they do seek shelter it's not always in their own run
Pottage
I'd say this photo speaks for itself My girls are either too nosey or too stupid to get out of the rain unless it buckets it down. There's loads of places to shelter in our garden (they are allowed in and out of the big garage at will for starters) but they choose to just stand out in the rain. Steve, especially, will just stand in the middle of the lawn crying in the rain. We've come to think that she thinks if she yells at the rain long enough it will eventually stop just like she's asking it to. Silly girl! She gets a right grump on if we herd her into the garage and just walks straight back out again!
Cat tails
She just likes singing in the rain! Poor chook... Her efforts are not recognised...
mullethunter
Tee hee, silly wet chooks
merlina
Mine go out in the rain and get soaked through - just like that! They don't seem to mind getting wet at all - there's plenty of places for them to shelter and they always seem to choose not to - unless it's rained all day, then they'll go under the bushes and off to bed early They've always done this and after several years there seem to be no ill effects
Valkyrie
Nothing our silkie loved more - it meant I'd fetch her inside and blow dry her feathers while she stuck her wings out to be dried underneath. But she'd forage in the worst weather. They have their run and they have the greenhouse - which they will march up the garden when the rain gets too heavy for them. Also have the eglu run set up for extra cover. The greenhouse is also very handy for spying across to the kitchen for movement and then they rush out to hint at the trellis gate. Then march back into the greenhouse when I ignore them!!! Or try to.
