Does Bumblefoot always need antibiotics ?

Recommended Posts

:(:(:(

So I have acorns that damaged my original roof, pine needles that could have stabbed my girls feet and now some lovely prickly sweet chestnuts just waiting to add to the mix.

Next time I move house any trees will be far, far away.

Tomorrow I will have a good tidy up and sift their soil for them.

Hubby worked hard for me today sifting the soil in their digging pit.

I really can't believe the number of stones and bits of glass that appear, just their Omlet run soil to do now.

But I did have a bit of a brainwave moment  Suzie has spent quite a long time in the broody cage over the Summer. This is a wire dog crate that goes in a car.

Gemma has also spent a bit of time in there but not as much.

Do any of you think the wire, although smooth, could have hurt their feet, because they were in a position that is not that comfy ?

Luckily the dog crate has a plastic base so we will use that from now on with some aubiose on top.

It won't quite give the air all around like it did so they may have to stay in an extra day and night, but if that is what's caused the Bumblefoot then I know we can fix it.

I feel sad that something I did might have hurt them.

You shouldn't feel bad. Particularly as we're only assuming that might have been the cause. I put mine in an upside down hamster cage so it could just as well have happened to her, and to be honest I wouldn't even know because I never pick the Wyandottes up as they scream blue murder!

Don't feel bad luvachicken it's clear you always do the best for your girls.

Both Suzie and Gemma went to the vets today.

He said Suzie's was almost better and that Gemma's, although small, would never get better without the antibiotics.

So now they both have some.

It will be harder to sort now that I am working back at school and Suzie has got wise to the fact that treats = being caught so she runs the other way - really not helpful.

And then there's Lucie who tries to get the syringe from me

I discussed the dog crate idea with him and he wasn't sure because it wasn't sharp and said more likely it was stones that caused the Bumblefoot.

He also told me it is pretty common amongst chickens so I am not feeling so bad that I might have inflicted it on them.

(He also told me I was a very good pet owner who deserved to get a puppy - those who know about Daisy will understand and he was the one that sent her to doggy heaven)
