Clucking_Mad
Hi Everyone, My naked neck Beryl has been very broody for the last month she hasn't laid any eggs and doesn't want to get off the nesting box at all. We have been taking her out of the box and keeping the door shut but this doesn't work she still just sits out side the coop it also upsets Dorothy when she is ready to lay. I have also tried to give her cool baths to try and cool her down but this doesn't work either. I don't have a broody box or dog crate the only thing I really have is a cat basket but she like curling up in that! She does eat and drink a little bit but not as much as she used to and I am worried that she will lose to much weight. What do I do to snap her out of this or do I just let her get on with it and hope that she snaps out of it soon? Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank in advance. mullethunter
I bought a cheap hamster cage and turned it upside down. Worked in 3 days - but I did catch her on day
Chickabee
They can easily go broody for up to six weeks. If your not going to crate her just make sure you take her off the nest a few times a day for food and drink. I usually leave mine to it. They loose a bit of weight and condition but quickly get it back after
mrsatroy
Bella my Amber Star went broody for 16 weeks last May I took her off the nest several times a day to make sure she ate a bit and drank - she did loose a bit of weight and condition - but she didn't look too bad at the end of it. I didn't bother trying to break it I just let her get on with it. That said it has to have been warm inside in the cube during the hot sunny months but she seems none the worst for her 16 weeks of seclusion. Grandmashazzie
I tried to break my broody Amber Star with putting her in a dog crate,I thought I had her sorted after a few days but she became broody again.I too, just left her to it.Lifting her out three or four times a day for her to eat.It lasted about 8 weeks but she looks fine.
