KeymerKim
WOO HOO we got our first egg today. After just over six weeks since their arrival, either Fuffknicks or Honk (our two Miss Pepperpots) laid the first egg. It was about one week ago that Fuffknicks started to crouch - followed by Honk the next day. Egg weight : 47gms. I nearly fell over with excitement. Barrie was in the pen with me (which is very unusual when I clean out!!) helping me with the glug removal (which is a real pain to get out of a cube, but that's another story). I opened the egg port and squeaked. In a hollow in the bedding, was the most perfect little brown egg. I had thought that one of them would start soon, because yesterday the bedding was all scratched over instead of being all tidy. I couldn't be more excited if I tried. I now know how all of you felt when this happened to you. Wonderful wonderful clever girlies. Love KeymerKim xx

KeymerKim
I most certainly did - am still doing it now in fact! I asked Barrie to hold the egg while I finished cleaning the nestbox (where the girlies sleep!) - the look on his face was sooo funny. He was terrified that he would drop or break it - he's a bit clumsy at the best of times. He couldn't wait to hand it back to me.
arowland17
Ours have been laying everyday for about 2 weeks now and I still get so excited when I find the egg in the nest box! Bought a little chicken basket to keep them all in am so proud of them!
KeymerKim
I know exactly what you mean - I even put my solitary egg in the Omlet Egg Box to see what it looked like!!
Mel (& Paul)
What a lovely post!! Really made me smile - I can just see you doing the egg dance with Barrie standing stock still holding the egg worried in case your flailing arms and legs might knock it to the ground

The Dogmother
It's always upsetting when you accidentally break one of their eggs, isn't it?
KeymerKim
You've got it in one Mel(& Paul) - he was backing away very slowly with a look of horror that I'd not seen before - holding the egg like it was .... well, an egg!! I was so excited I gave myself a stomach ache - not so bad that I couldn't share the egg with Barrie for lunch tho!! Delicious - the yolk was such a deep yellow - it was quite beautiful. I love this forum! xx

arowland17
i was so upset on my first 2 egg day when one was a soft shelled one and I broke the other!! I've been much more careful since that disaster and have avoided breaking any of my precious eggs! I show everyone my little basket of eggs they must think I'm a right nutter getting so excited over it!!

The Dogmother
I've got 6 layers on the patch at the moment and didn't get a single egg yesterday A couple are moulting, one is far too pretty too push and the others have been threatened with the roasting pan! Oh, and Lily is excused, because she's chick raising at Lesley's.
