Alis girls
Big deal I hear you cry - but it was easy - I held and OH fitted. It was so simple we had to look at the photo to see if our girl looked like the one in it and she did. I wasnt helped by the fact the kind Omlet person put a note saying good luck and sent me a spare which made me think it was a major task The reason being the little minx is an egg eater and having been alone a few weeks a friend has offered me a girl who is picked on and very unhappy and we are going to see how they get on with a view to rehoming. Wish me luck. Oh and I now have one grumpy hen. I am now waiting for it to drop off
gavclojak
Fair play to you, I tried when I had a major problem but bottled out, I wish I had persevered as it ended up with a rehoming. Good luck with your rehoming, I hope she gets another chance with your girl bless her x
Alis girls
Little minx hoovered up a plate of porridge no problem - she just looks hacked off. I hope it will break egg eating habit and that her and the new girl will be ok. The new one is young and having a bad time of it. My friends other hens just peck her all the time. I will keep you posted.
The Dogmother
Well done She will soon get used to it. The trick is to make sure that it is far enough back in the nostrils so that she can't pull it off with her feet; there's a flap of skin inside the front of the nostril, so get the prong bits towards the back. Beantree
When we first ordered Bumpa Bits from Omlet years ago I asked for some fitting instructions. The reply was "Sorry we can't help you. "Ooops, word censored!"ody here would dream of fitting one of those things to their chickens!" Well done Alisgirls. The first one is always the hardest and now I hope it works for you, and her! Alis girls
Thanks ladies - I have had experience of bullying with my girls and we will remove in a couple of weeks if its still on. I wasnt happy about fitting - I've ordered some more in case of problems in the future with future girls. Some people would have dispatched an egg eater but I love this hen wonky beak n all. Every one to their own. I lost a bumpa bit in the garage when having a play with one. Pinged out of my hand She still looked cross this am but I have 3 cats that sulk for Britain and the commonwealth so can cope with that. gavclojak
Hahah beantree is an enigma!! The question of gender was never resolved, maybe beantree likes keeping us guessing or more likely doesn't think it's relevant

Alis girls
UPDATE Picked up Rhoda the newbie who is a RIR - dear little thing all on her own in a run facing the bully girls. She adores my friend and didnt want to come - made a dash for it when I didnt secure cat box but we got her in and 5min drive and she was at her new home. I have a Go and another little wooden house on the other end of run built by OH. Maggie May (my hen) surveyed the new arrival and did her best Oscar performance of the Chicken stomp up and down the run. I gave them a dish of porridge which OH had lovingly prepared and they tucked in to it with gusto. They spent the next 2hours avoiding each other. I have put extra feeders so theres no food fights and if Maggie wasnt modeling the bumpa bit Rhoda who is timid and used to being a punch bag would have been bullied. Maggie went to bed (wooden hutch) and Rhoda followed then came out and got really stressed like she couldnt find where to roost. Totally ignore Go which was open. I grabbed her and put her in with Maggie and shut door. We've just had a peek with a torch and they are sitting across from each other. Soo cute and lovely and snug in there. Oh and got an intact egg today - long may it last.
Alis girls
Day 2 - FR together - another egg today (intact - yahaay) still a bit of argey bargey but Rhoda looks relaxed and happy to be out n about. Slept in wooden hutch and were in bed by the time I got in last night. Rhoda was charging up and down with something edible in her beak ? not sure what ? slug/mouse and Maggie was determined for a share - no chance. I am so pleased they seem to be bonding. I can put off new girls till after Christmas now which will be nice as time is not much we have at present.
gavclojak
Well done for giving her a nice secure home, it must have been so stressful for her and your friend seeing her getting bullied. Sounds like the introductions are going well, it's a win win isn't it!!
Alis girls
Thanks I am happy too. I didnt confine them as they had each been alone for so long. Maggies an old girl and she needs a mate to snuggle up to at night and Rhoda needed an easier life. She arrived at my friends from the same farm but for some reason we couldnt fathom she was picked on. She obviously has guts as she was happy to steal an edible morsel for herself - I have no idea what it was - dread to think
