Chickabee
I have a gorgeous pekin frizzle called Dazzle. I had to move her from my main coop and run this summer as all feathers on her head got pecked out. She had a great summer living with my red partridge silkie and became a mum to 4 beautiful cream legbars. She was really content and did a fantastic job after the shock of the eggs turning into wriggly things. Since parting her from her young ones she's been living with my small birds and free ranges every day. Recently she was attacked by one of my birds. I removed the bird and successfully integrated her in the larger coop. I thought nothing of it, until a couple of weeks ago her friends started to attack her and they drew blood. I covered her in purple spray and she returned to them seemingly with no problems at all. However today I went to let the littlies out and theyed attacked her really badly. This has coincided with the bantams laying their first eggs. Sorry for the long story. Problem I have now is that Dazzle is living in my shed, with the door slightly ajar. I don't want to bring her indoors because she's not ill. I can make the shed very comfy for her and don't mind one bit if she lives in there, but is this fair. She will be able to free range from dawn til dusk. Should I rehome her or see if I can get her another little friend. I could put eggs under her in the spring and let her live with her babies. Any ideas would be very gratefully received. Thanks, Sonya Edited January 6, 2015 by Guest

Beantree
Poor little girl! Ours started fighting between themselves today and I can only put it down to Spring being in the air. We are now two weeks on from the shortest day and perhaps they are just defending their territory ready to lay hatching (they think) eggs. So bandages on claws broken on the dividing mesh and lots of wiping of bloody combs. Only the TNN's doing it though. Would think she'll be fine in the shed Chickabee. Certainly needs separating for a long time until healed and the idea of getting her a friend is great. Not sure about chicks because then you have to deal with cockerels. Chickabee
Thank you. I'll try to get another frizzle, they are so lovely, or maybe a youngish silkie. They can live in the shed together. Hopefully will be getting that house with land soon, fingers crossed. Then chooks can be sorted into categories. It has a couple of stables. Oh gosh must stop myself I'll go chicken mad (or should I say madder)
sjp
it's the extra 10 -15 minutes of day light it turns them into thugs for a few days/weeks I've got two that are chuntering all day long. they only start new years day but it seems like a month ago then the one started egg announcing about noon and hasn't laid an egg or stopped gobbing off
Luvachicken
She is a real sweetie isn't she Poor little thing, it's not nice when they get picked on. I would get her a little friend too. I think they would be quite happy in what you have sorted out. Good luck for getting that house you are after Just imagine how many chooks you could have then. Purplemaniacs
Poor thing, I do feel for you, it is horrid when they attack each other. My first group of hybrids turned on Henny Penny every so often. It often coincided with one of them coming into lay, it seemed to upset the pecking order. redsunset
What a beautiful little chicken! I'm guessing she has a sweet nature and wants to get on with everyone? If so I'd look for a similar breed/friend and they can potter around together?.....then another two to keep them company.......
mullethunter
No advice I'm afraid just wanted to say 'Poor little Dazzle'. She looks lovely - hope you get her sorted out
Chickabee
She is a sweetie. Doesn't look for trouble anywhere. I've been given someone's number to phone tomorrow, by a very reputable breeder. Hopefully he'll have a little friend for her

miller30
I wouldn't get her a friend until her wound has completely healed up there's no saying a new bird won't look at it and think oh what's this they are so nosey leanne
Chickabee
Good idea Leanne. I always rush in and deal with the consequences later. She actually loves pottering around on her own
miller30
I've had birds live on their own before for various reasons it's better if they don't but they learn to adapt and they can still see all the other birds so do fine leanne
