susiepoos
OH will be 50 next January and I want to throw a party for him. He likes seventies music - David Bowie, Marc Bolan etc - I need ideas on room decoration, food - especially food - whether to do fancy dress or not - what do you think????? All ideas greatly recieved. PS He's much, much older than me
Egluntyne
Black forest Gateau and Prawn Cocktail are always cited as being 70's....you could dish those up. With some Party 7's.
Cinnamon
We went to one a few years ago - it was a hoot (I will try to dig out some photos) Blue Nun or Bulls Blood wine, or make your own retro cocktails, heavy on the cherries & paper umbrellas. You need more Disco to mix in with the cool 70's stuff you have mentioned - Jackson 5 etc. You MUST MUST MUST do fancy dress, or it just won't be the same. You can get cool 70's gear on Ebay, both origional & modern (We got Brians vile shirt from there), & I wne 70's Hippy Dippy, which suits me Type 70's or seventies into Ebay & you will get loads more ideas. Somwhere around here hires those big disco mirror balls I think
feemcg
All the big, swirly patterned wallpapers are back in the DIY shops - you could 'temporarily' cover one wall and set your table up in front of it - cheese and pineapple cocktail sticks stuck in half a grapefruit, food served in Tupperware dishes. Cinnamon
Brian will kill me if he ever finds out I have posted this - You can see why I fell for him, can't you? The great thing about 70's dress up is that there are loads of alternatives. You have Hippy, medallion man,the Mini skirted Twiggy look and even early punk Something for everyone
Louise
What has he got on his face (apart from the glasses of course) I can understand why he will be less than impressed with that
Cinnamon
I think its a reflection from the mirror balls

Chocobo
I think hippy would be a cool costume idea... My brother went as a hippie to a party- maroon cord flares tye dye top and bandana, his long curly hair down ... of course the only thing different to what he usually wears were the tye dye bits. craftyhunnypie
I'd have a birthday cake done to look like a record player, complete with record made out of icing! Bubble tubes, lava lamps. Big Flowers, rainbow wigs, afros, glitter, platform shoes!!!! We did a seventies do ages ago in a marquee. Hubby was the dj & I was his assistant. That was fancy dress - it was excellent! Fondues were all the rage in the 70's. One fondue set per table! Oh you will have an excellent time! Emma.x
theherd123
Fancy dress is a MUST!!! You can buy the cheap star shaped glasses from a £1 shop and they look soooo cool! As for food how about half a grapefruit wrapped in foil and cheese and pineapple on a stick. You need to watch the film 'Abigails Party' to get you inspired! chelsea
sounds fab, YOU MUST do fancy dress. I would do all the above PLUS also get a karaoke machine (with 70's songs only) and make your guests sing the hits too !!
Clash City Rocker
Angel Delight, Blancmange in a jelly mould, shaped like a Rabbit, Babycham, Snowballs with cherries on a cocktail stick. Chipsticks. Melon Balls, Top of the Pops albums, Tennis Game for your TV.
Rhapsody
How about a 'Life on Mars' party........
Kathy C
What a brilliant idea Rhapsody There is so much scope there. Or 70s TV characters fancy dress - The Sweeney, The Professionals, Avengers. As for decor I remember my parents wallpapering the living room in Orange wipe-proof wallpaper. You have to have those bright colours in there somewhere. Definately lava lamps, and fibre optic lamps. Space hoppers!!!! Food and drink: Black forest gateux, cakes with hundreds and thousands on, ice gems, prawn cocktail, sweet german wine, babycham,
