Houston we have a problem (RATS)

Recommended Posts

thats not good. When we had them we used Eradibait and wrapped it in a little cling film with peanut butter inside and out and dropped it down the hole they were using and in the compost bin - they died and did not come back. Then we had another lot years later- I bought bait boxes and put them where they were running to get to the eglu - the hopper we used pushed food out the back and the rats were getting that - My husband sorted that and they ate the bait and lo and behold never to be seen back since then. The hopper was my way to go and i had to rat proof the bird feeders by putting a cover over them ( small round plastic tub) so the rats could not slide down and help themselves so again they have disappeared for the moment.

Theses little *€$¥^ actually have to climb over one of the bait boxes that is pushed down a hole under next doors fence to get to the fence but would apparently rather do that than eat the bait. I have tried covering in peanut butter, dog food, prawn juice.....

I am hoping that I am at least winning the battle if not the war. I have seen no fresh activity over the past week. I thought that the bait hadn't been touched but actually when I looked more closely there were a lot of husks from the grain in the bait box rather than solid pieces of grain so I topped it up with some fresh and we seem to be getting somewhere :D

Everything gets put away, it always has.

I think my bio security might be working as I haven't seen ratty for a week or so in the enclosure but saw him run along the outside a few days obviously trying to get in.

They have not taken any of the bait or been near the trap

Well I have not seen any evidence of them getting in for ages. I then checked the many bait boxes and to my surprise they had taken everything from the two boxes outside the run...so I guess while I was on holiday they Made the most of it.

I have topped up again and they have been taken so I will continue until they stop taking it, at that time I suspect it would be goodbye mr rat.

Gosh it took so long for them to start to take it....
