Lesley
Kooringa - if you go to the RC forum or home pages, you will be able to read about it (or Amazon perhaps) it is a cookbook for all the family to use. It encourages children to cook and to know where their food comes from. The photos were taken while the children cooked - not staged photos. It also covers the 'Whys and Wherefores' of cooking. Cinnamon
Don't mention MIL to me Mel Mine has just announced that we WILL be going to her house on Thursday (& we WILL enjoy ourselves) Also she has booked panto tickets for the girls for Wednesday without asking if they want to go, which at 12 & 10 they do not,& also without asking if they were free (just assuming that they would break any other engagement in favour of it)

Guest
Lesley I looked at RC thanks and definitely want to get one for less than Eighteen Pounds - that is £18 ! I know how you feel though as I always seem to buy things the day before they are reduced.! Don't let spoil your day
Lesley
I know they've got both their signatures in but quite honestly, I could have scribbled in them for free I felt compelled to say, as daughter and sister opened them on Christmas Day "I didn't get them for half price you know!" Guest
Oh Lesley you do make me laugh. I am sure that they are extra special because they are signed and that your sister and daughter will treasure them for that very reason. (But trace over the signatures for next time!) Nicola H
Sorry lesley I didn't mean to rub it in, I hate paying over the odds for anything especially books I usually only buy them from the book people but you have to wait until the book has been out for a couple of months before they become available on the site, but them they are really cheap. DonnaS
ps have got my good mum badge on today Done 8 hours at work, cleaned the whole house, made pumpkin seeds rolls and homemade soup - feel very virtuous! Just listening to Robbie's new CD. Yeah! A RW fan! (At least I have to assume so from your PS Clare...) You know I had to leave the RW forum to come here and talk about chickens..... Now, if I could just combine the two..... Did you get tickets to any of his concerts next year by chance? Cheers. Donna (chicken mad and Robbie mad too...) DonnaS
I got the family Cookbook for Christmas & I must say that I cannot wait to have 20 mins to myself so I can actually sit down & read it Also got the Jamie Italy one, which looks fab too I got the RC Family Cookbook from DH for christmas too - but have been so busy buying chickens, playing with chickens, reading chicken forums etc etc that I have not got past page (hang on, let me look ...) 39... Wot do you mean? You aren't supposed to read the whole book cover to cover?! It does look good though - and I am a HFW (and JO) fan - but probably still mostly too old for my little girls (3 and 5) - though was very impressed with the fish gutting completed by the 9 year old!!) Would love to go on a cookery holiday ----- but wondering how I will ever go on holiday again now that I have chooks...... (That will be the subject of a new posting later on... Mother in law (2 mins up the road) who's animal mad, told me this evening that she would not come and let my chooks out in the morning if I went on holiday (and she was my number one bet for chook-sitter for the summer......). More anon. Hope you are having a lovely evening. Cheers. Donna
clare*
I am thinking the same thing at the moment. Holiday's and chickens just don't seem to go My Mum has been quite adamant that she will not be looking after them if I go away. She has done a couple of weekends for me but that is about her limit I have all sorts of plans for Holiday's this year, being as they have been few and far between the past couple of years. They should have a Chickenry, like the cattery!
Lesley
We usually have 6-8 holidays a year but cut down last year because of the chickens, even though we have a reliable chicken sitter. This year we will be taking even less as I feel another project coming on
motherhen
I'm going to take a guess here Lesley - does it involve broodies/incubators, fertilized eggs and end up with more of your amazing table birds?

Cinnamon
Donna, I can highly recommend Hughs Spag Bol (divine!) & we had the salmon fishcakes tonight which were just fab. Hope you get the chicken sitting sorted
DonnaS
Hhi Clare* - Kate A. posted in another string that she had been able to train her chooks to come out of their Eglu with the door shut but not locked (by slowly closing the door bit by bit and getting them to push it open further and further until they could open the whole way) - and that meant that early morning visits weren't essential. Can you find any neighbours that could help perhaps? Those with pets that you could pet-sit too maybe? I will chat to my neighbours shortly and find out when they have holidays (they have 3 weeks away at Easter - so no easter hols for us!) so that we can ensure that if one is away the other family is here. Sarah - thanks for your spag bol and fishcakes recommendation. I WILL use the cookbook. I will (but have duck tonight and steak tomorrow (yes all organic ). Cheers.
