grahamrhind
I keep reading here that eggs take 25 or 26 hours to form. Where does this figure come from? My (hybrid) hens lay every 24 hours, like clockwork. All of my hens have, though they may occasionally miss a day. So a 25-26 hour cycle can't be the case for all hens or all breeds. Luvachicken
I've wondered this too. If it was every 25 hours then an egg would be laid an hour later each day ? Mine often take far longer than 25 hours
Cat tails
I think it ranges from 23 to 27 or so hours. Also depending on the breed. Mine lay every other day, but that just means that she is releasing an egg from her ovaries every other day. The formation of the egg itself will still take around 24 hours. Ps: This link has some nice information on the whole egg laying business.

sjp
they have eggs at different stages of production the better the layer the closer the time between the eggs so from 24 hours upwards basically about 6 or 7 eggs each cycle if you factor in a rest day every 6 or 7 days for something like a warren /isa brown i.e the standard brown hybrid that lays the majority of commercial eggs in the UK down to something like my old gold legbar that's down to 1 or 2 a month in the late spring to mid summer
