Cat tails
I'm planning a visit to London next February. My mom and me are taking my 11 year old niece as a surprise. We will be going to the Harry Potter experience again as she is a big fan. Also getting tickets to Wicked. Probably also Tower of London, Tower bridge and things like that. We are looking for a good fish and chips place, in the inner city, that is also kid friendly. Any of my London Omleteers have a good suggestion? Grandmashazzie
When I was with my daughter we went to Browns and had lovely fish and chips. I think they have few branches in London. Also if you haven't already booked Wicked same daughter saw Aladdin the musical last week and loved it. Cat tails
Thanks Gran! Will have a look at Browns and Aladdin. Last time we ate at the Shakespeare's head and that was great food too. Apparently they are kid friendly too, so will have a dinner there too.
Lydia
Theatremonkey have an offer on for Wicked at the moment, which runs until next April. See here.
chooksRCute
If you get a few loose hours to spare the London eye & London aquarium are excellent - both just over the bridge from Big Ben & Westminster
clucker1
Woohoo! I love London and live 55 mins train journey away but in the county with the most trees in the UK in very beautiful countryside in the Surrey Hills. Anyway, we went to see Wicked , spent nearly £100 per ticket on row S in the stalls, were a long way away I thought, and didn't rate it that much. My family loved the lion king far more. amazing, magical musical. Have seen Matilda this Summer and that too was fab, I'm still playing the cd. patsylabrador
This might be helpful. If you're travelling along the Thames don't forget the River Bus. Easy, have a toilet and coffee. Just make sure you have a healthy balance on your oyster card. fish and chips Thames Clippers
Cat tails
Well Wicked booked by decree of mom. Booked: Boat Hotel Wicked Harry Potter wasn't available yet And then I got a phonecall today: Boat will be getting serviced and our trip back is cancelled! We need to stay an extra night in London and take the day boat back. So will have to ring hotel to see if I can extent with one night Thanks for the fish and chips link! We did do the river bus last time too, was nice!
clucker1
sounds fab, have low expectations of Wicked then you will be ok. I think part of our problem with it was we'd seen the best bit in it a few weeks beforehand on tv and that had spoilt it. Plus the seats weren't good despite £££ cough splutter being spent. If you haven't, go and see changing the guard, check website for which day they are in when you visit. I love just meandering, Southbank always has artists, markets to wander along to. Thanks PL for fish and chip link,I'd never thought of eating fish and chips in London, must try it out.
Cat tails
We have the £19 tickets, so expecting to see mostly heads, but it's the experience that counts I think. Especially for my niece. Have talked to the hotel and booked an additional night. Turns out that sleeping in London in a hotel is cheaper than sleeping on a boat! who knew! We have to take the train at 06:38 though...
Grandmashazzie
I enjoyed Wicked. My daughters put it in their top 3. I wouldn't go that far as Phantom and Les Mis are my top two and many vie for third place.its the whole London experience, great for a long weekend. I am sure your niece will be thrilled with it all. Cat tails
We are alread thrilled by how thrilled she will be! We won't be telling her for a while. She turns 11 in January and I think she might just get a letter from Hogwarts.
Lewis
I've seen Wicked in London and Chicago and loved it both times. Matilda is great too! I've not yet done it but the Spirit Collection Tour behind the scenes of the Natural History Museum is meant to be good.
The Dogmother
The Shard is a good one to go up, plus all the usual haunts, which have already been mentioned. J Sheekey's is supposed to serve the best fish and chips, although IMHO they'd be hard pushed to beat my local fish and chip shop Enjoy your trip
patsylabrador
I'm thinking that if you're in the vicinity of the theatres you could take your niece to Hamleys in Regent Street. OH and I like to ride the escalators up and down and just absorb the crazy atmosphere. It's always fun and we always buy something silly and pointless. Cat tails
Hamleys is that enormous toy shop right? Definitely going there! With or without niece
