When the 30 day lock-down was announced, I decided to get some approved disinfectant (to avoid any rush is an outbreak occurred).

 

Many sites claimed that Viratec-P was Defra approved - so I bought some. Now, looking on Defra's web site, Viratec-P doesn't seem to appear and many web sites no longer make the claim.

 

A cached page eg http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/chickenhouses/Net-Tex-Viratec-P-Poultry-Disinfectant.html used to say

"Viratec-P Poultry Disinfectant cleans and disinfects in one application and is UK DEFRA approved against all notifiable poultry diseases. Containing a powerful composition, Viratec-P is highly effective against hundreds of strains of bacteria, viruses and fungi. ... " but now makes no mention of Defra

 

Similarly cached pagehttp://www.chicken-house.co.uk/.../Nettex_Poultry_Viratec_P_disinfectant_500gm.html

"Nettex Viratec-P Poultry Disinfectant cleans and disinfects in one application and is UK DEFRA approved against all notifiable poultry diseases."

 

An Amazon page (https://www.amazon.com/Net-Tex-Viratec-P-Poultry-Disinfectant-500G/dp/B003L6LUOA) DOES still claim "Net-tex Viratec-P Poultry Disinfectant cleans and disinfects in one appliCation and is UK DEFRA approved against all notifiable poultry diseases. "

 

I could go on. When I ordered it, 'all' the sites claimed it was Defra approved - hence my purchase.

 

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Yeah, me too. DEFRA has recommended the one/s they can think of off the top of their head. Viratec is what I use, and my local poultry supplier too.

It does the job, i wouldn't worry about a logo or endorsement.... especially from defra

probably something to do with it's license (an old one probably expired )like a lot of products for the garden the domestic use stuff is slightly different to the commercial stuff as it's cheaper to get licensed EU regs. require products to be tested for both commercial and domestic use separately as of the early 2000's before that a commercial license covered both uses but if the domestic use product is below certain % levels for the more harsher chemicals then the testing for the license isn't so complex as the commercial grade there are also chemicals that can't be used in domestic use products because specific training is needed for the use of commercial products containing them
