BridieLou
I've just given a pooey chicken and bath and a blow dry and it was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. Never had to before, but popped her in a warm sink and she sat down, wrapped her in a towel and she fell asleep, then blow dried her and she just sat on my lap, without even being held. Happiest I've ever seen her! Released back into the coop and the others are wondering why they've been left out... I did notice that their nails are getting long - I guess because of the lack of free ranging. Anything I could put down to help them scratch? Luvachicken
It is nice to do but it takes such a long time to get them dry They do go very dopey when they are being blow dried don't they ? I always use a tiny bit of baby shampoo - just don't mention it's for a chicken if you get it in a chemist. I don't have much idea about their nails but wonder if you could give them a tray of gravel to s"Ooops, word censored!"e in ?
BridieLou
Hilarious, she loved it! Not a habit i'll be getting into though - I'll become obsessed! That's a good idea, I might pop a tray in tomorrow and see if that helps. They're dust bathing like "Ooops, word censored!"ody's business and keep making a run for it when the door is open. Just cleaned them out and am trying Auboise on the floor this time - hopefully it'll be longer lasting.
Chickabee
I tried budgie sand paper for my quail and a scratching block. Didn't work, so I clip Them now. Surprisingly easy once you've done it a couple of times
Valkyrie
Kitty the silkie used to get so soggy when it rained that the hairdryer was something she rather enjoyed. She used to lift up her wing on one side and then turn around and lift up the other wing for me to dry. Funny little bird. One time never to wash - when they are moulting. You wouldn't believe how many orpington feathers flew up and around. Talk about being in a snow globe with blue feathers instead. I use Ecover on my girls. Baby shampoo is fine. BridieLou
Good tip on moulting - I can imagine that looking like a scene from Home Alone..! Ecover sounds good. Might pick some of that or baby shampoo in case there's a next time.
