When is a broody not a broody?

Recommended Posts

Shelley is being very odd! She's walking around making broody clucky noises without at any time that I've seen actually sitting like a broody should. Has anyone else seen this? Could it be because she wants to be broody but isn't bothering because every time she tries to sit she gets her comb badly pecked? At least that's what often happens when she goes to lay.

When is a broody not a broody = when it's not a pekin  or a cockerel.

What colour is she ?

When I had my 2 lavenders they were never allowed to be broody. Now I only have 1 lavender out of the 3 I have left it will be interesting to see if she is broody this year.

My Araucana starts to show she's going to be broody about 4 days before it happens - when I hear her making those clucking noises you mentioned and she stops squatting then I get ready to whisk her away into the broody cage. Mind you, I have had plenty of practice learning to spot the signs - the daft creature goes broody every 6 weeks or so

Our Bab's is always buck buck bucking and has a bald chest but does not sit in her nest but is quite stroppy when she is laying. I think it is her breed but necause of her chest I am not sure if it is broodiness, lack of protein or something else.
