patsylabrador
It looks quite likely that I'll be going back to Japan this year but this time for a wedding. I'm super excited but have to lose some size although that's going at a steady rate, just need to work harder. I also need to work harder at my Japanese. I don't know many details but it'll certainly be fun. I think I'll have to wear a dress but I don't really know how to do that anymore. I haven't worn a skirt or dress for at least 20 years I reckon. Grandmashazzie
Indeed how exciting. My friends sister doesn't 'do' dresses either. She went to Debenhams and saw personal shopper who immediately connected with her and shape, size, likes, budget etc and brought her array of stuff to try and she got lovely outfit for wedding. Cat tails
How exciting indeed! I'm far from a dress/skirt wearer. Short leggs, big bum and big bust don't really help... but have found an amazing dress for a wedding. It is a Ralph Lauren, from the Lauren line. Yes, it was far from cheap, but it fits like a glove in all the right places!
soapdragon
How fab, PL! Great news! Have you thought about wearing something Japanese......or in that style? Otherwise how about a shift dress.....I have bought several for this summer from Weird Fish which could be dressed up or down. They are cotton too which is good for the heat if it might be hot? patsylabrador
Thank you everyone. Yes, I think a shift dress would be best for me. Something Jackie O in style with a natty little jacket. I'll give the gloves and funny little hat a miss though...... and absolutely no fascinator, I'd feel a right idiot in one of those. I think I could carry that off. I would feel odd and self conscious in anything flowing or decorative. The wedding is traditional in a temple so I would be worried about offending people if I wore anything other than Western style. ES will wear traditional clothing.
Willow
Oh how exciting, please put a link to your photos when you come back! I don't know what shape you are but if you like trousers why not a lovely stylish trouser suit?
patsylabrador
Thanks. I've looked it up and I think a trouser suit is a big no-no which is a shame. There seems to be quite a specific dress code. I will do photos.
patsylabrador
This is what I've bought. I'm not tall, slim or beautiful like the model but the dress is really nice and well made and has a little kick when you walk in it. The wedding isn't for months but I thought if I don't buy it it might disappear. What do you think? Also the navy blue compliments my grey/silvery hair just right.http://www.marksandspencer.com/shutter-pleated-lace-shift-dress/p/p22511211?image=SD_01_T42_3561_F3_X_EC_90&color=DARKNAVY&prevPage=plp
patsylabrador
Also would you tell me if the link is safe. I don't think it links to my account.
soapdragon
Oh that's lovely, PL! Tres chic! Gorgeous colour too! You are so right; when you see something that you love you HAVE to get it there and then! Are you planning a hat/fascinator thingy?
Daphne
Yes that is really nice! Just the sort of thing I would choose, its got interest in the lace and skirt detailing without being loud and too attention grabbing. I also like the neckline It just links to M&S, not you! I also like the fact you can choose whatever colour you like for the shoes/bag/accessories, virtually anything goes with navy. You could be very wild with pink for example
Blackrocksrock
Love the dress just right for a wedding. A nice shawl to go with it and as you said no fascinator needed. The link is fine -it linked to my account!!!
patsylabrador
Nice one Blackrocksrock!! I don't look good in hats of any kind so I'm going to look at all the hairdresser sites online and practice a nice style. I fancy holding it together with tiny diamante pins. I hadn't thought of other colours for accessories and I have read that a shawl is almost expected so I will look into that. All these years of avoiding getting dolled up and I'm really enjoying it. Luvachicken
I think the dress looks very pretty. I wouldn't mind one for myself actually
patsylabrador
It's a slightly different system in Japan. You submit the paperwork and if it's approved you're signed off and that's it, boom you're married. So that bits done and the ceremony etc will happen later. I guess it takes a lot of pressure off and seems nice and simple. We were redecorating the bathroom when we got the message and that was odd. Obviously not everyone does it like this, this is just how it's happened for us. I love how low key it all is.
Charlottechicken
Only just seen this, the dress you have chosen is absolutely gorgeous and as another non dress wearer I would certainly wear it! Can't wait to seee your photos!
